Misconduct

Pregame: Senators @ Red Wings - 11/23

The Red Wings host the Ottawa Senators tonight and the Detroit Swede most under the microscope isn't former Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson but Gustav Nyquist.

Nyquist made his first appearance of the season on Thursday, scoring twice against the Carolina Hurricanes. Playing a second game with the Wings would mean he can't return to the AHL without clearing waivers, so his appearance in the lineup tonight means he's up for the rest of the season.

Alfredsson, as well as fellow summer signing Stephen Weiss, remains out injured.

Jimmy Howard is expected to start opposite Robin Lehner.

Stupid stat of the day: The Red Wings are unbeaten this season with Gustav Nyquist in the lineup.

Game time is 7:00 PM on FSD.

And here I was thinking they weren't calling interference type penalties tonight.

Defenseman knew that was in before he hit Helm. Tool.

Neil, tough guy, going after Zetterberg there.

I thought Turris was just an awful player, not a dirty one.

Maybe Ken Holland should stop lobbying for OT changes and get on the "larger nets" bandwagon.

Smith is an awesome punching bag.

Quick comments on the Smith/Neil fight... Neil has been running around most of the night looking for a fight. Ran at Zetterberg, shoved with Weiss. Finally a slash and a cross-check to goad Smith into going. Krupa says, "someone needed to take care of chris neal and the thuggery around here, which is why fighting must remain in game. good for BRENDAN SMITH!!!"

No.

Neil wanted the fight, Smith just gave him what he wanted. It's not Smith's job to oblige, it's the officials' job to call the stuff he was doing to try to start a fight.

Saying Smith should fight Neil to stop him from breaking the rules is like saying I should shoot the guy tailgating me on the highway. Yeah, I know, "the code" and all. Whatever.

Man, if only Franzen had fought whoever the hell that was, I'm sure this game would clean right up!

Also, Ken & Mick were discussing the fact that more Russians are staying in or going back to Russia to play, leaving room for more Canadian players in the NHL or resulting in a larger % of players being Canadian. While there are aspects of the Russian culture that I do not admire, I will miss their addition to hockey in the Americas. They have brought dazzling skill and finesse so lacking in the brute power game played by the Canadians. I think the game will lose a lot of fans.
