I'm going to stand by the following Twitter exchange from early in the first period:
@wingingitmotown: Imagine the Aucoin Quincey Trip goal is the game-winner and hate me for asking you to.
@detroithockey96: Hell no, that's the only appropriate way for this to end. Wings battle back just enough for that to matter
This "fight back in the third period after an awful first forty minutes" joke has got to stop. The Wings deserved to lose on a goal that should in no way have counted because it emphasizes the fact that they didn't do enough to win. They haven't for awhile now, so I'm not going to be mad about the outcome, just about the fact that they can't seem to put together a full game.
The Red Wings return home from their West Cost road trip down another man, as Darren Helm will miss four to six weeks with a second-degree MCL sprain. Gustav Nyquist is back up from Grand Rapids to replace him in the lineup tonight as the Wings host the Washington Capitals.
Nicklas Lidstrom practiced this morning but will not play tonight, still recovering from the deep bone bruise in his ankle. Johan Franzen and Joey MacDonald remain out, as do Patrick Eaves, Jonathan Ericsson, and Jakub Kindl.
As per Ansar Khan, the Wings will roll the following lines against the Caps:
Filppula - Zetterberg - Hudler
Nyquist - Datsyuk - Bertuzzi
Miller - Abdelkader - Cleary
Holmstrom - Emmerton - Mursak
Kronwall - Stuart
Quincey - White
Smith - Janik
Howard
Game time is 7:30 on FSD.

I need someone to talk me off the edge of the cliff here....I'm about to call the season over because I don't see this getting any better. (Does anyone agree that we need a few more, even just one, power forward who can score?) Meanwhile, Pittsburgh is looking unstoppable. I hope I'm wrong.
