I'm not going to waste the rest of my night watching the Red Wings put in zero effort in Montreal so I'm writing my postgame thoughts up in the middle of the second period.
It's not the lack of Nicklas Lidstrom that has Detroit looking this bad. Missing Lidstrom doesn't cause Jimmy Howard to screw up on the third and fourth goals against. Missing Lidstrom doesn't cause Niklas Kronwall to pinch in on that third goal. It doesn't cause some of the stupid penalties.
If you want to say this is what Life After Lidstrom will look like, remember that the Red Wings aren't going to replace Lidstrom with Mike Commodore when he retires. They're going to take Lidstrom's salary and put it towards another top defnseman. No, it won't be an even trade, but it won't be the lineup we see tonight.
Tonight is an anomaly. Like the loss in Washington in October. A game to learn from, of course, but hardly a reset of the status quo.
It's a rare matchup tonight, with the Detroit Red Wings visiting the Montreal Canadiens in their only meeting of the season and the last game before the All-Star break.
The Red Wings will be without captain Nicklas Lidstrom, who's suffering from the flu. Mike Commodore and Jakub Kindl will both be in on the blue line. No other lineup changes are expected.
Lidstrom will be the focus of the "NHL 36" episode set to air on NBCSN before the game. NHL 36 is at 6:30, followed by NHL Live at 7:00, with the game at 7:30.
I may join this one in action, I've got an appointment at 6:30.
You know what I hate most about the other team scoring on a national broadcast? Pierre McGuire talking...
4-0???? Really?!?!? In one period?!?! WTF!
I cannot watch this. I hope when they look back on this season they don't kick themselves for sacrificing these 2 points (and the others lost in games like this). I hope this game doesn't matter.
I switched to my recorded copy of NHL 36 on intermission. I see I missed two goals. I think I'm done for the night.
This is f*cking ridiculous! Can we look like we are at least halfway interested in this game? I get the all-star blues bust seriously? Six unanswered goals with 15 minutes to go? For f*cks sake, this is supposed to be one of the best rivalries of all time and this is what the fans get in the only meeting of the season?
Some of these guys should get a few games in Grand Rapids for such a p*ss poor showing! I'm sure a few of those guys would give more effort than what we have seen thus far.
