Pregame Notes: Coyotes @ Red Wings - Game Two

It's an afternoon matchup on NBC as the Red Wings host the Coyotes in Game Two of their Western Conference Quarterfinal matchup.

Since Detroit won Game One, a lot of the talk has been about how the Coyotes need to be more physical and/or goalie Ilya Bryzgalov needs to be better. Both may be true and are signs that, on the flip side, the Red Wings can't be content with how they played on Wednesday.

If the Coyotes can find another gear, the Wings will have to as well. They made their share of mistakes on Wednesday night and against a Phoenix team that's firing on all cylanders, that could have been critical.

Detroit hasn't started an afternoon game time on time all season, so that'll be the big issue for them to deal with. The series is too young for a must-win game but if the Red Wings can hold serve at home they'll be in very good position heading to Glendale for Game Three.

If you're not out tailgating down at The Joe, you're wrong!

Seriously, the Wings need to swell up and come out flying when that puck drops. No more slow starts please.

In-laws just got here to watch the game, I'll probably be quiet.

Franzen in bad shape. Cut to hell on the face. Hope he can just be patched up.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 1:27 PM

Well, that was a scary thing on Franzen. Looks like he was cogent and talking.

Final 30 seconds of the PP almost made up for the first 90.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 1:35 PM

Defense is looking really good so far. We're going to need that if Franzen doesn't return.

Man, guys who hit people after the whistle are so tough.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 1:41 PM

Hell of a shot. Nice drag to his right at the last second.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 1:44 PM

Dats with the G and Homer with the screen. Unstopable.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 1:45 PM

Babs says he imagines Franzen will be back for the second.

Special teams clinic so far this series.

Homer with another screen. I hope Bryz like the smell of Homer's butt.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 1:55 PM

That was effing sick!!!

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 2:02 PM

Holy christ. Datsyuk goes between the legs, Bryzgalov makes the stop but Helm gets the rebound. What a play.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 2:02 PM

I always thought Datsyuk and Helm should play together.

I think that was the best first period I've seen all year. But then, I haven't been able to watch that many games this year. Someone chime in if they agree or not.

BTW, congrats to Pasha for winning the best Russian NHL player of the year.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 2:05 PM

Maybe not best, definitely most dominant. Fantastic start. Gotta stay with it.

For those not on Twitter, from @timlogue: "BREAKING: NHL found a buyer for the Coyotes! Datsyuk owns them."

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 2:15 PM

Mule still questionable. Father in law says there's no need for him to come back at this point.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 2:21 PM

Homer did a great job of getting his stick on it.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 2:23 PM

Winnapeg... I mean Phoenix looks punch drunk.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 2:26 PM

Report is Franzen will be back soon.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 2:31 PM

Nuts...

That all started when Helm lost the face-off and then failed to clear.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 2:33 PM

Thought Draper was gonna get the block there. Damn.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 2:33 PM

Phantom call and now Franzen's back.

He wants his point.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 2:36 PM

Jovanovski tough hiding behind that cage and grabbing Helm's face.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 2:41 PM

lol... Got Dats, Homer and Raffy in my playoff pool. Solid game so far! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />

Great job by Abs to take the shot and then get in on the puck on the PK

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 2:45 PM

Goals, assists, picks, deeks, hits...

Typical Datsyukian night.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 3:00 PM

Once of those, "If that was Holmstrom" plays. Hanzal in the crease.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/16/2011 at 3:27 PM

What the hell? Here comes the Bettman specials...

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 3:29 PM

That would've been a pretty goal for Bert if it went in.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 3:48 PM

Well, that was an intense ending.

14 to go!

Posted by DetroitRiver on 4/16/2011 at 3:53 PM

Still shaking. Closer than it needed to be. Not happy with how that ended, except for the final couple minutes where the Wings didn't let the Coyotes get possession.
