Former Red Wing Andreas Lilja returns to Detroit tonight with his new team, the Anaheim Ducks.
Lilja hadn't signed with the Ducks last time these two teams met, in the season opener on October 8. I'm sure no one needs reminding of what happened then but just for the record: Pavel Datsyuk. Gordie Howe Hat Trick.
Todd Bertuzzi will be a game-time decision, having injured his foot blocking a shot on Thursday against the Flames. He didn't skate yesterday but thinks he'll be ready tonight. If he can't go, Justin Abdelkader will crack the Wings' lineup, returning from his rib injury.
Abdelkader could be in the lineup anyway if the Red Wings opt to go with a more physical look to their fourth line to counter the Ducks' aggressiveness but no changes are expected.
Jimmy Howard gets the start in goal.
No way they can give a game for that
They're supposedly cracking down, Kronner has a bit of a reputation, and Selanne is a future Hall of Famer. I'm not saying I agree with it, just that I expect it.
So far, not thrilled with the game despite the score. Don't like all the penalties, don't like that they're gonna come back against the Wings later.
And Mickey is bitching up a storm tonight. I kind of want him to shut the hell up.
That looked nasty. Ouch.
And distracted Ken and Mickey from whatever they were going to say about Kronwall.
Anyone else notice they just showed the JLA wireless network information on TV?
I missed it swiching channels :-/
I'm checking in a little late. That was a sick deke by Dats and a nice hit by Kronner... Selanne is a wus and no way should they give him a game for that.
Salei with the chance to clear, complete wiff. Sweet.
Jimmy with no chance on either but this is looking a lot like the Dallas game.
Don't expect that from Zata, great tip.
Sure you do. Because it's necessary.
I still look for Yzerman for that kind of thing.
Huge save by McElhinny.
Right before that amazing shift, I said I had a bad feeling about the last minute. Damned glad to be wrong. What a move by Pavs.
Wow, I really need to get a Datsyuk jersey. That was a bedazzling finish!!
I already have one and I think I need another one. ![]()
My next jersey should be ready in about a month, I'll have to post that one.
I expect my initial reaction to the Red Wings' win tonight to go over rather poorly: Detroit didn't deserve the win, Anaheim did.
We were at the game...family birthday celebration...and it's always interesting to me how the game must look so different on the tube than in person...maybe it's the "gang" effect? Anyway, it was a super exciting game to watch. (The two goals scored early in the second period were my fault...I had to leave to hit the ever-long line at the ladies' room...when they build a new arena, I do hope they'll take that into account.) The Kronwall hit was not much of anything, it seemed, but Selanne stayed down for dramatic affect (and I like Selanne), and the Ducks were gooning it up all game long...never satisfied to just finish a check...gotta add a little elbow or clutch or something for good/bad measure...they could have taken several/many more penalties...plenty of interference. Their goalie was magnificent, however. If the Ducks deserved to win (and I do not agree), it was mostly on his effort. The Wings seem to have some new set plays, not quite perfected, but exciting nonetheless. We, the family, just kept saying (even the next day), "What a great game that was to see!"
