Misconduct

Red Wings - Ducks Pregame Notes

Former Red Wing Andreas Lilja returns to Detroit tonight with his new team, the Anaheim Ducks.

Lilja hadn't signed with the Ducks last time these two teams met, in the season opener on October 8. I'm sure no one needs reminding of what happened then but just for the record: Pavel Datsyuk. Gordie Howe Hat Trick.

Todd Bertuzzi will be a game-time decision, having injured his foot blocking a shot on Thursday against the Flames. He didn't skate yesterday but thinks he'll be ready tonight. If he can't go, Justin Abdelkader will crack the Wings' lineup, returning from his rib injury.

Abdelkader could be in the lineup anyway if the Red Wings opt to go with a more physical look to their fourth line to counter the Ducks' aggressiveness but no changes are expected.

Jimmy Howard gets the start in goal.

There we go

One game to Kronner. Don't be surprised.

Great shot by Zata, even if Homer gets it.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/23/2010 at 7:23 PM

No way they can give a game for that

Posted by fitch.1918 on 10/23/2010 at 7:24 PM

get another one here

They're supposedly cracking down, Kronner has a bit of a reputation, and Selanne is a future Hall of Famer. I'm not saying I agree with it, just that I expect it.So far, not thrilled with the game despite the score. Don't like all the penalties, don't like that they're gonna come back against the Wings later. And Mickey is bitching up a storm tonight. I kind of want him to shut the hell up.

That looked nasty. Ouch.

And distracted Ken and Mickey from whatever they were going to say about Kronwall.

Anyone else notice they just showed the JLA wireless network information on TV?

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/23/2010 at 7:40 PM

Real strong PK followed by a great chance from Pavs and Kronner.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/23/2010 at 7:42 PM

That was pretty sick by Pavs

Seriously? How many times have the Wings left a guy wide open in the slot this year?

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/23/2010 at 7:45 PM

What is with this f*cking team?

Posted by catmandu on 10/23/2010 at 7:45 PM

Ticks me off when they give away a goal with under a minute to play in a period

Posted by fitch.1918 on 10/23/2010 at 7:46 PM

I'm checking in a little late. That was a sick deke by Dats and a nice hit by Kronner... Selanne is a wus and no way should they give him a game for that.

Did Jimmy even react other than to look behind him? Lucky post.

Salei with the chance to clear, complete wiff. Sweet.

Jimmy with no chance on either but this is looking a lot like the Dallas game.

That's in but the ref took his time deciding it.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/23/2010 at 8:17 PM

Can we get Janik sent back down and Smith called up or something?

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/23/2010 at 8:19 PM

Way to stick with it, Mule! How did Mara not get it?

Crazy shift by the third line. Weird night so far.

Fantastic tip by Homer. A little further out than usual. Awful giveaway by Getzlaf.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/23/2010 at 8:36 PM

Awful giveaway again, this one by Cleary. Great shot by Selanne.

I'll be damned. Don't expect that from Zata, great tip.

Sure you do. Because it's necessary.

I still look for Yzerman for that kind of thing.Huge save by McElhinny.

Right before that amazing shift, I said I had a bad feeling about the last minute. Damned glad to be wrong. What a move by Pavs.

I expect my initial reaction to the Red Wings' win tonight to go over rather poorly: Detroit didn't deserve the win, Anaheim did.

We were at the game...family birthday celebration...and it's always interesting to me how the game must look so different on the tube than in person...maybe it's the "gang" effect? Anyway, it was a super exciting game to watch. (The two goals scored early in the second period were my fault...I had to leave to hit the ever-long line at the ladies' room...when they build a new arena, I do hope they'll take that into account.) The Kronwall hit was not much of anything, it seemed, but Selanne stayed down for dramatic affect (and I like Selanne), and the Ducks were gooning it up all game long...never satisfied to just finish a check...gotta add a little elbow or clutch or something for good/bad measure...they could have taken several/many more penalties...plenty of interference. Their goalie was magnificent, however. If the Ducks deserved to win (and I do not agree), it was mostly on his effort. The Wings seem to have some new set plays, not quite perfected, but exciting nonetheless. We, the family, just kept saying (even the next day), "What a great game that was to see!"
