Red Wings Recall Janik, Place Draper on IR

It appears that defenseman Doug Janik will make his Red Wings season debut tonight as Detroit hosts the Colorado Avalanche.

Janik was recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins today and is expected that he will play in place of Brian Rafalski tonight. Rafalski left Monday's practice early.

With Jonathan Ericsson also out, the Red Wings needed to call up Janik to have six defensemen. To make room on the roster, injured forward Kris Draper was put on the short-term injured reserve. Draper will be eligible to return on Saturday.

Jimmy holds strong and the Wings finish off another solid PK. Good start so far.

Janik just got his ass handed to him. What was that all about?

Dupuis totally kneed Howard.

Should have been cleared anyway, Wings looked sloppy there.

Four shots? Damn, yo.

The great passing continues.

I was just asking who would play the point with Modano on the second PP unit but I guess it doesn't matter.

It's about time Franzen started doing something. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />

He's sniping this year. Seeing-eye shots.

I think Howard might want that one back. Might have gone off Salei, which would be two in two games.

Great shift by the third line right before that.

Oh Jimmy. Ugh, that was kinda bad.

Network issues keeping me from posting.

Shorthanded goal: Great pass by Helm, fantastic finish by Eaves.

Tying goal: Wings look sloppy in their own end and Jimmy looks slow.

Uncalled high-stick on Filppula: Wings only have one power play tonight?

I'm not feeling a shoot out, I hope the Wings are.

Some nice moves by the Wings in the shootout but that was painful to watch. Jimmy looked better in the SO than the rest of the game.

Thoughts on the entire day later after I sort out some technical difficulties.
