Game Seven Pregame Notes

The Red Wings head to Game Seven for the third consecutive series tonight. For the first time since 1991 they face a Game Seven on the road.

I don't know what to expect going into tonight's matchup. Detroit isn't making any lineup changes but the Coyotes could see the return of captain Shane Doan, who completed a full practice with the team for the first time since leaving Game Three with a shoulder injury.

As I said yesterday, the Red Wings can win this one. Just last week they had an awful afternoon game at home and bounced back with a big win in the next game. There's no reason it couldn't happen again.

Sunday's lack of effort should have no bearing on tonight's game but - to me, at least - it does.

In the past I would have no problem with believing the Wings would flip a switch and get the big win. They've done it plenty of times.

After pathetic efforts on consecutive Sundays, however, I don't know that the Red Wings want to flip that switch. If they wanted to, why the apathy in those two games?

In short, I believe the Wings have the ability to win but I don't have faith in their desire right now.

Game time is 9:00 (not the previously-reported 10:00). We'll see what happens.

Our father who art in the Joe. Hockey be thy

name. Thy will be done. The cup will be won. On ice, as well as in the

stands. Give us this day our hockey sticks. And forgive us our

penalties, as we forgive those who cross-check against us, Lead us not

into elimination. But deliver us to victory. In the name of the fans,

Lord Stanley, and the Wings. Amen...

I'm not saying this series is lost. I'm just saying this team needs to wake the f*ck up and play like they give a damn.If they lose, they lose. I'm fine with that as long as they don't waste my goddamned time by not giving any effort.

Malik says Doan is out.

I'm just getting caught up with the pregame news 'cause Gog is conspiring to not allow me to watch this game.

I made the mistake of deciding to mow my lawn this evening. Thing is, Comcast never properly buried my cable line when they installed my service last summer. I've always been careful with it so it's never been an issue, I planned on burying it myself when I put in my sprinkler system this summer.

Of course, today it's an issue. Sometime between last week and this week, my cable got moved and was no longer pushed into the ground, below the height of my lawnmower blade. About two hours before the start of the game, I had a partially-mowed lawn and no cable.

Thankfully I'm a telecom geek and I have compression F connectors and extra coax and all that sitting around the house. Twenty minutes before the start of the game and my TV and Internet are back, hacked together.

Eat it, Gog.

Power play looked sharp. Need goals though. Familiar refrain.

Another impressive but scoreless first period. Usually this means the Coyotes will do something in the second. Have to take advantage of the opportunities. Bryzgalov has been huge.

There we go! That's capitalizing. Way to go Pasha!

How was that not a penalty shot?

Holy f*ck. Holy. f*ck.

Hell of a play by the Eurotwins.

That made me picture the Wings in full gear taking a class on the art of bedazzling with a bunch of old ladies hahaha. Sounds like an awful movie or TV commercial. Maybe that's what they need to do to win? I'll write some letters to Babcock about it.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 4/27/2010 at 10:21 PM

Goddammit. Come on, we saw them try that twice a minute ago.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/27/2010 at 10:22 PM

Bryzgalov still on but the Wings are throwing an insane amount of rubber at him.

Don't blow the goddamned whistle if the puck is there you blind sack of sh*t.

Bout time one goes in...

For next series, I would like to see more than 40 % of our goals not get reviewed/called back...

wow.... Bad calls actually do yield good results.

This is not the game they played in the last game seven they were in.

I agree with Ken and Mickey, Zata got away with the delay of game but it was an evener.

This has been the Wings' best game by far but they can't let up. Phoenix is not giving up by a long shot.

So far, though, I'm extremely happy with the effort. This doesn't even look like the same team as Sunday.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/27/2010 at 10:50 PM

Wings are locking things down so far. The game feels slower, which worries me a bit, but the clock is moving.

Bert!

Nick snipes it. This is fantastic.

Hell. Yes.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 4/27/2010 at 11:40 PM

And people didn't even think the Wings would make the playoffs this year. Pfffft.

The game seemed to be the reverse of Game 6....

It was a thing of beauty, for sure. On to San Jose....I hope they don't have to play again on Thursday already, but if they do, they'll go straight there from Phoenix, yes? Wouldn't make sense to come back to Michigan....

A funny story, of sorts, to share regarding Game 6: I had a dental appointment EARLY Monday morning. My dentist was born in Canada (don't know if he's taken American citizenship...doesn't matter), and his mother is a huge hockey fan. She works in his office....So, she comes into the office Monday morning, all out of sorts because of the Wings' loss. His office is right by the room where I'm having my teeth cleaned, and I can't help but hear their conversation. She doesn't say "Good morning", and makes a point of it. They commiserate over the game and the fact that a number of other teams had closed out their series, etc., etc., etc....I thought it was charming!

If the Wings had lost tonight, I'd have packed it in for the season....How about the other posters? Are you watching the other games? Will you continue to watch if the Wings are eliminated at some point?

Great quote from Toronto Star: "The Red Wings, when they're going, still play a different game than most NHL clubs, or a least a game that most teams can only dream of playing. They do it with speed and passing and discipline, and they delivered all three last night in the clinching game to such a degree that even Todd Bertuzzi, long a glowering, goonish presence in the league, looks composed and focused."

"Properly burried?" Man, if a mower can get at it, it ain't burried at all. Just do like I do, and tell your wife the lawn is in playoff beard mode. If we get to June it'll look like ZZ Top is layin there.

I stop watching until there's a chance to see the Cup awarded. The only Cup ceremonies I've missed since 1995 were Colorado's wins, and that was purely by chance, not because of the team.

Oh it was buried just fine in places where it was easy to bury it. We're on clay, if they hit a tough spot they didn't bother making the effort to bury it better.I'll bury it myself when we get around to putting in our sprinker system this summer.

Love it! And it is sooooo true. (And my own personal opinion is that the game would attract more fans if more teams played/could play the game the way the Wings do.)

Posted by OldBroad on 4/28/2010 at 2:54 PM

Now...it's a shame they cannot show up every game and play like the wings we all know and love! My ulcer can't take this!

This could be a new topic, but I'll just tag it on to Round 1, Game 7 (TRIUMPH)....Did anyone watch the Caps/Habs game tonight? I am disappointed for Caps fans that their season is ended. Last year during the playoffs, I spent a very little time reading comments posted by fans of some of the other teams who were competing, and it seemed to me that the Caps fans were far and away the most civilized (!wink.png after the Detroit contingest. I really would have expected the Caps to score at will like they seemed to be able to do during the regular season...maybe that's the problem...the will was lacking? They looked disorganized when they really needed to bear down....They will have something to prove next season.
