Quite a few hours later and I've still gotta say, today's game was one of the better ones we've seen all season.
That is as a hockey game, of course. There have been better outcomes for the Wings and there have been better games for the Wings but both Detroit and Chicago played a fantastic game this afternoon.
I can only complain that it had to go to a shootout, but even then Pavel Datsyuk and Todd Bertuzzi provided a couple highlight-reel goals. It doesn't take away from my dislike of the tiebreaker but I've always said the shootout is fun to watch and those two didn't disappoint.
I'm sure the Wings would have preferred to get two points. I would have preferred it, too, but if today's game had to be a Detroit loss then that was a fantastic way for things to go.
Another afternoon game to follow up yesterday's mess in Dallas. I'm still seething from that, so I don't exactly have good feelings about today's matchup.
At least it's an afternon game for you! It's 9:30 in the morning and that makes sleeping in impossible. I do however, forsee a Datsyukian deke...
Isn't this what that f*cking waste of space May is supposed to be here for?
Maybe the Wings have given up and are just going to turn into goons like in Slapshot? That would be a pretty great way to finish the season.
Will someone nail Pierre with a puck so he will shut the f*ck up?
LMAO! I agree with this! It makes me miss the mastodonic guy from Versus.
At least they all agreed during the intermission that the goal yesterday was crap.
I don't know whether to celebrate that goal or lament the fact that we didn't see it live. Thanks, NBC.
Great set play to make that happen. Kind of weak goal but I like it.
Like I said going into OT, at least they got a point. The way it started it seemed like it would be.
Not gonna be a popular opinion, but Howard looked like sh*t in the shootout.
Time to put Ozzie in and let him get 400.

I don't know that I am statistically correct here, but it does seem to me that one of Ozzie's strengths is the shootout...he always seems to pretty much "have the book" on most of the shooters in the league. (I don't suppose a team is allowed to change goalies for the shootout, right? Although, I don't know why not...it's just an extension of the game....Hmmmm.)
Two heartbreakers in a row...didn't get to see or hear but bits and pieces, but it seems that our boys played well enough to win....

Howard's been on a hell of a tear but Osgood needs to get a start sooner or later.

I don't have the stats either but I heard people talking today about how both of our goalies are awful in the shootout. I thought Osgood didn't have a horrible record but I could be wrong. And you can switch goalies before the shootout, I think Toronto did it last year, the new goalie just doesn't get any warmup time and you can't switch back and forth.

They did, but so did Chicago. It was a great game all around.
At least we got a point is all I can say. Probably the best effort put forth by the wings this year. Probably the most exciting wings game this year as well but all that being said, hawks win again despite this huge effort from the wings. Hawks are on a different level than wings, they're like the wings of the past two years. Is it just me or does hawks salary seem to be over the limit... Anyways it would be an interesting 1 v 8 matchup in playoffs if it were to happen. Blackhawks are the superior team now.
