I only caught the third period of Thursday's Red Wings - Kings matchup but from that and reports of the rest of the game it sounds like another one of this season's typical home wins for Detroit.
Six games into the season the Wings have played an entirely different game at the Joe than they have on the road.
At home they're calm and patient. They move the puck well on offense and they backcheck when play moves into their own zone.
On the road (including the "home" game in Stockholm) they're sloppy. They rush to force passes through and they don't come back to play defense.
Detroit's GAA at Joe Louis Arena is 2.00. Elsewhere it's 5.00. The Wings are scoring a full goal per game more at the Joe than they are on the road.
Admittedly, these numbers are skewed by last night's 5-2 win and Tuesday's 6-2 loss but those are trends the team can't afford to let last for the whole season.
No pregame notes from me as I'm currently relatively disconnected from hockey news here in the future home of the Phoenix Coyotes.
I expect to be missing this game and Saturday's matchup with the Avs but last time I was out here I managed to catch a game so we'll see. Compare this to my last vacation where the Wings played three games and I caught them all (one was on Versus nationally and the others I attended), this is a bit of a letdown.
Dude, NHL Center Ice is a free preview right now. That is, if they offer it in Hamilton...I'm watching it on FSD right now and I have not subscribed yet.
BTW, this game is sucking. We looked solid for a few minutes, but we need to get it stepped up. *sigh* We need this win.
You know Balsille was denied the purchasing rights by the judge, for the Coyotes, right? So they are probably not moving, there are other offers on the table to keep them in PHX. I live in San Antonio, our AHL team is their affiliate...so I'm obviously concerned with the issue. Griffins actually play the Rampage this weekend on a double header Sat and Sun. I'm going to go check out the prospects. Saw McCarty score a goal last year actually assisted by Leino.
I'm not in Hamilton, I'm in Las Vegas. Running around with family a bit so I can't track down a place to watch the game. I know it's on at the ESPNZone in New York, New York.
Aah, Ericsson's shot went off the goalie's stick. But all tied up. And there's always ways to watch the game if you look in the right places. Like here: http://www.ustream.t.../red-wings-live
Yeah, I could find the game but I'm running around too much to do so. I'm back in my room for a second but thats it.
No one specifically trying to move the team to Vegas, I was just throwing that out there.
Awful call on Stoll. Ouch.
And the Wings score on it. The Kings are gonna be p*ssed. p*ssed enough that Stoll goes back to the box.
What a way for Lidstrom to get his 1000th point.
