Red Wings - Sabres Pregame Notes

The Red Wings are back to .500 and look to improve tonight in Buffalo. They'll do so without both Kirk Maltby and Kris Draper as Darren Helm returns to the lineup.

Helm is making his first appearance of the season after suffering a sprained AC joint during the preseason. He takes Draper's spot in the lineup while Maltby remains out in favor of Patrick Eaves.

Eaves and Helm will join Brad May on the Wings' fourth line. All other lines are expected to remain the same as were used in the third period of Detroit's 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

No changes are expected on defense and Chris Osgood will start in goal.

Good to see Buffalo aren't wearing those sh*tty Buffaslug jerseys. Not much gone on so far.

Sabres are really flying. I feel like to a certain extent the Wings are just holding on.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/13/2009 at 7:25 PM

Hecht dropped his stick, that was a lame call.

And of course the Sabres score on the power play.

f*cking PK.

Filppula!!

Power play finally got going and a goal comes out of it. If Mickey was the color guy tonight he's say kids that's why you keep your stick on the ice.

Abs yapping at Grier. Nice.

Well, that just sucks.

Goddamnit, I thought Ozzie had that. Just barely couldn't get reset.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/13/2009 at 8:13 PM

Wow. What can you do there? Lidstrom played that perfectly.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/13/2009 at 8:16 PM

Aarghhh! And to make it worse I dropped Vanek from my yahoo fantasy team yesterday.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/13/2009 at 8:18 PM

Jesus Christ. Maybe I should stop watching and they'll play better.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 10/13/2009 at 8:22 PM

I just realized something. It's a lot easier to score when you're right in front of the goalie. Someone pass that on to Babcock so he can tell the defense to keep people out.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/13/2009 at 8:22 PM

Jesus Christ. The wings have been dominated all game.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/13/2009 at 8:23 PM

Next Sabres goal I believe I am done. :/

Way to race back there Stuie. Dipsh*t. Howard should be coming in on defense, Osgood got hung out to dry.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/13/2009 at 8:25 PM

The way it's going at the moment, I'd be happy with Buffalo getting single figures.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/13/2009 at 8:28 PM

Argh.

Still early in season, no panic yet. More of this gameplay though and they should just bottom out and get a high draft pick. This way we can be like the penguins. Or just trade half our team at the trade deadline like they've done the past two years.

i feel like im having deja vue of the hawks-flames game last night. i hope we can pull a come back off in the 3rd, that is our period to shine, but somehow i think they lack the motivation tonight.

Woo! Taylor Hall here we come!Actually, I'm not in panic mode, it's just that my PTSD from last June kicks in when I see the Wings give such horrible efforts.

f*ck it. That's me done with this game.

I give you credit for lasting that long. I quit when Osgood got pulled. Which is longer than the Wings' defense lasted, I guess.

Babcock has got to be p*ssed. I was listening to the game on my drive home and it sounded like the Wings defense was wandering off like a kid in a candy store. Sounds like nobody gives a rats ass about this game. 6 to 1 are you serious? Sounds like the early 80's when you see the GA twice as much as GF. What is Ozzie's GAA 4?

During the preseason it seemed like almost all the NHL prognosticators commented about how much wear and tear the Wing's players had on their bodies the past three seasons. Perhaps some of this wear and tear is as much mental as it is physical. Right now Datsyuk and Zetterberg look like very ordinary players and no one is playing particularly well. In my fantasy hockey league I passed up most of the Wings in my draft except Lidstrom (with my 4th pick) taking only some of their more marginal players for my bench. Seems like for years that almost all the other teams had to scramble to qualify for the playoffs while the Wings fine-tuned in preparation for the REAL season. Now, it appears that the Wings will be doing this and with the improvement of several teams it's now beyond the bizarre that the Wings could wind up on the outside looking in. IrishWing

As I mentioned earlier, I'm not ready to write off the entire season just yet. I'm just so damned tired of the Wings not putting in any effort.

Last night wasn't about them not being a good team. It was about them not even bothering to try.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/14/2009 at 10:00 AM

It would have been nice to have the REAL Wings show up at a game...

Posted by SYfanSD on 10/14/2009 at 12:36 PM

I concur. However, there were plenty of games last season I felt they didn't even bother to try either and we did just fine.

A Wings game is like a box of chocolates...never know what team you're going to get.

except when its the playoffs, wings show up.

That was ugly...and what we can expect if/when they forget to pack their "grit"!
