The Wings and Sabres aren't done yet but I'm following Malik's lead and calling this one early.
From what I understand (I haven't actually had the game on since midway through the second) Detroit is currently losing 6-1 early in the third. Fantastic. I think we can guess how this one's gonna end.
To me, Buffalo's fifth goal shows just how this game went. Derek Roy drives to the net. Niklas Kronwall and Chris Osgood hold him off but the puck comes to the open side of the net. There's no Detroit defender there. Brad Stuart stopped skating in the slot. Thomas Vanek is untouched as he puts in the rebound.
Yeah, that's the kind of effort the Wings put forth tonight. Well done, guys.
Power play finally got going and a goal comes out of it. If Mickey was the color guy tonight he's say kids that's why you keep your stick on the ice.
I just realized something. It's a lot easier to score when you're right in front of the goalie. Someone pass that on to Babcock so he can tell the defense to keep people out.
Way to race back there Stuie. Dipsh*t. Howard should be coming in on defense, Osgood got hung out to dry.
Still early in season, no panic yet. More of this gameplay though and they should just bottom out and get a high draft pick. This way we can be like the penguins. Or just trade half our team at the trade deadline like they've done the past two years.
i feel like im having deja vue of the hawks-flames game last night. i hope we can pull a come back off in the 3rd, that is our period to shine, but somehow i think they lack the motivation tonight.

Woo! Taylor Hall here we come!
Actually, I'm not in panic mode, it's just that my PTSD from last June kicks in when I see the Wings give such horrible efforts.
f*ck it. That's me done with this game.
I give you credit for lasting that long. I quit when Osgood got pulled. Which is longer than the Wings' defense lasted, I guess.
Babcock has got to be p*ssed. I was listening to the game on my drive home and it sounded like the Wings defense was wandering off like a kid in a candy store. Sounds like nobody gives a rats ass about this game. 6 to 1 are you serious? Sounds like the early 80's when you see the GA twice as much as GF. What is Ozzie's GAA 4?
It looks like it could be a VERY long season (or short) for the Red Wings. During the preseason it seemed like almost all the NHL prognosticators commented about how much wear and tear the Wing's players had on their bodies the past three seasons. Perhaps some of this wear and tear is as much mental as it is physical. Right now Datsyuk and Zetterberg look like very ordinary players and no one is playing particularly well. In my fantasy hockey league I passed up most of the Wings in my draft except Lidstrom (with my 4th pick) taking only some of their more marginal players for my bench. Seems like for years that almost all the other teams had to scramble to qualify for the playoffs while the Wings fine-tuned in preparation for the REAL season. Now, it appears that the Wings will be doing this and with the improvement of several teams it's now beyond the bizarre that the Wings could wind up on the outside looking in. IrishWing

As I mentioned earlier, I'm not ready to write off the entire season just yet. I'm just so damned tired of the Wings not putting in any effort.
Last night wasn't about them not being a good team. It was about them not even bothering to try.
I concur. However, there were plenty of games last season I felt they didn't even bother to try either and we did just fine.
A Wings game is like a box of chocolates...never know what team you're going to get.
