Misconduct

Red Wings - Ducks Game Six Pregame Notes

The Red Wings look to wrap up their Western Conference Semifinal matchup with the Ducks in Anaheim tonight.

Should they win, it would be the ninth series win on the road in a row for Detroit. The Wings haven't closed out a series at home since defeating the Carolina Hurricanes in five games in the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals.

Defenseman Brian Rafalski is a game-time decision for the Red Wings. He's missed the first five games of the series with an upper-body injury. No other lineup changes are expected.

i truly feel like we got this in the bag Anaheim has no answer's left since we found our game if Rafalski doesn't play i'm not gonna be heartbroken as i feel we need him %100 to deal with Chicago but he would be a welcome addition to a blueline we have had to work extremly hard thus far

I'm not ready to say anything is in the bag. I want Raffi back to help on the PP. The Wings need to take advantage of any time with the extra attacker and he can help with that.

The Ducks are going to throw everything at us. These past two games, Detroit has been playing THEIR game rather than trying to play a game to counteract the Ducks' game. If we play our game like we have been, I think we can win this. We really need to be careful or else the next one is do or die--not a comforting situation.

I bet Raffi's in.

We'll see how it goes.

Ageed that they are going to throw everything at us tonight. After all it is do or die.

Keys to tonights game:

Detroit

Homer and the Mule's action in front of the net will be critical. Clogging up the slot and crashing the net will get us going early.

The defense will need to be on their toes. Anaheim is going to come out hard and fast so to counter act that we need to frustrate the attack early and keep the pressure goinig.

Anaheim:

Ryan Getzlaf; as he goes so do the Ducks. If he is not at 100 percent then things are already swinging in our favor.

Goaltending... enough said

Ducks are gonna crash the net hard. That's got me worried. I'm picturing an Anaheim goal while someone falls into Osgood.

Under two hours left, I'm definitely feeling nervous.

Rafalski is back. Yay <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.png" />

I like that Helm is getting credit, too. I am excited. I hope it ends tonight.

Ugh. I'm feeling sick tonight, definitely not helping my nerves.

Ozzie looks sharp so far.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 10:15 PM

my nerve's kicked in about 45 min's ago and Anaheim's out quick as expected

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/12/2009 at 10:16 PM

Puck seems to be bouncing a lot.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 10:21 PM

Aww damn, delay of game. Bad feeling...

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 10:33 PM

Big, big kill.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 10:35 PM

The penalties are making me angry / nervous.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 5/12/2009 at 10:43 PM

Not good to see the period end with a penalty. Wings didn't entirely look bad overall, Ducks looked better than they have.

I'm gonna go be sick for the next 17 minutes.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 10:45 PM

Getzlaf line had 5 of their 12 shot's in the first we can lower that as the game goes and it should end well for us

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/12/2009 at 11:03 PM

Another good kill but miscue behind the net gives the Ducks another power play. Damnit.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 11:05 PM

GRRRRR delay penalty but it probably saved a goal need another good kill

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/12/2009 at 11:06 PM

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 11:32 PM

I was just thinking that the Wings wouldn't be in bad shape to get to the third down by one. God f*cking damnit.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 11:37 PM

Plenty of time but the Wings have to wake the f*ck up.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/12/2009 at 11:41 PM

Ducks win and they thug it up again. Grow a pair, Gary, and enforce the late-game instigator rule. I dare you.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/13/2009 at 12:41 AM

Datsyuk fighting, yea that makes sense. Wheres a mccarty when you need him. wings trying to be too cute this game. Ducks got wings where they want them, they have this in the bag. Until proven otherwise, wings cant beat ducks in 7 games.

Posted by RideTheRedWave on 5/13/2009 at 1:01 AM

Don't be to hard on the Wings, I think they played well at times. The problem here is the refs not calling consistant calls, and not being consistant with wistle blowing. I counted in one period, 5 non-calls on the Ducks that were clearly penaltys, to 1 for the Red Wings. The early wistle blowing for Hiller was also very apparent. No wonder Ozzy wants to get rid of the puck, won't blow it for him...

Posted by Datsukian on 5/13/2009 at 1:13 AM

fabulous, the refs win again, thanks

Posted by pattonbordin on 5/13/2009 at 1:13 AM

For the record, here's what the NHL has as penalties at the 20:00 mark of the third period...

20:00 ANA Corey Perry : Roughing - 2 min

20:00 ANA Corey Perry : Fighting (maj) - 5 min

20:00 ANA Corey Perry : Misconduct (10 min) - 0 min

20:00 ANA Scott Niedermayer : Fighting (maj) - 5 min

20:00 ANA Todd Marchant : Game misconduct - 0 min

20:00 ANA Ryan Getzlaf : Hooking - 2 min

20:00 ANA Ryan Getzlaf : Roughing - 2 min

20:00 DET Pavel Datsyuk : Fighting (maj) - 5 min

20:00 DET Brian Rafalski : Fighting (maj) - 5 min

There's a middle ground. The Wings played like crap to start the game but came around, it was just too late. The refs didn't cost the Wings the game, but they sure as hell didn't help. Go back to some of the interference that was called but not Niedermayer pounding away at Holmstrom.
