Misconduct

Rafalski Rests, Brown Back, Carlyle Complaining

Kicking off Game Two discussion early 'cause we've already got a bunch of news.

The Detroit Red Wings will remain without the services of defenseman Brian Rafalski, out with an upper-body injury. He also missed Game One. It looks like Chris Chelios will continue to play on the third defensive pairing but the Red Wings pretty much rotated five defensemen in the first game of the series anyway so he'll likely see limited use.

Mike Brown will be back in the Anaheim Ducks lineup, having escaped without a suspension after his hit on Jiri Hudler in Game One. I said after the game that I didn't expect him to be suspended but it's still frustrating to see the NHL be so inconsistent on the matter.

Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle says the Brown hit was clean and that it was the Red Wings who were playing dirty. He says that Niklas Kronwall should have been suspended for a hit on Ryan Carter but conveniently failed to produce video evidence of the infraction. Of course, I can't imagine how hard Kronwall must have hit Carter for Carlyle to think it was suspension-worthy but Brown's hit wasn't.

Oh, yeah, a little-known NHL rule says only the big, strong Canadian boys are allowed to hit, so it's automatically an offense if Kronwall kicks some ass.

Game Two, Sunday afternoon, NBC. Kill me now.

Brown better beware of that target on his back this one is probably gonna have some nasty stuff involved although i would rather the Wings not partake in that and let the goons put themselve's in the bin which you would have to think is the strategy we intimidate with skilled play and should keep it that way although Ericsson-Perry round 2 would be nice i'd like to see Pronger punched in his ugly mug a few times to

Holmstrom already said something along the lines of "If the hit is there, take it" about Brown. So he's got a target but the Wings won't be stupid.

Interference on Whitney ignored early, bad sign.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 2:23 PM

Ozzie with the big save early!

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 2:25 PM

Wisniewski deflects it into his own net! 1-0!

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 2:29 PM

Goddamned right that goal stands. Jesus.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 2:34 PM

It's being reviewed. Looking at it there isn't a distinct kicking motion. And it's good!!!!

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 5/3/2009 at 2:35 PM

f*cking Getzlaf. The first save by Osgood was huge but no one's there for the rebound.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 2:39 PM

Brown impales himself on his own stick and Stuie goes off. Ugh.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 2:41 PM

Of course they score.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 2:41 PM

Oh sh*t sh*t sh*t. f*cking Pronger.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 5/3/2009 at 2:43 PM

No goalie interference. Surprise.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 5/3/2009 at 2:53 PM

Franzen comes up with some huge D. Wow.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 2:56 PM

Not calling interference tonight. Okay.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 3:01 PM

Kind of a sloppy period on both sides. Really weird to see. I don't expect an interference call for the rest of the day.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 3:15 PM

Osgood big again.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 3:22 PM

Darn it, they scored! I have never even heard of this Carter dude, hahaha.

I like the Swine Flu game, it is addicting <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.png" />

Twice now the Ducks have scored from on the f*cking goal line. Ugh.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 3:28 PM

they need to figure out somthing for their deep forecheck quickly

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/3/2009 at 3:35 PM

All the times they could have called interference and they finally call it there. Christ...

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 3:42 PM

Big kill. Good to see.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 3:45 PM

yeah apparently the crying of carlyle is paying off

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/3/2009 at 3:46 PM

Another big kill and then a stop Ozzie.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 3:54 PM

Awful period by the Wings. They don't seem awake at all. One goal on a power play of weird bounces, one on an odd-man rush. And I don't think they've had an odd-man rush since that one.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 3:56 PM

they have let anaheim control the pace they are getting in deep and trapping us in our end no odd man rushes the only bright spot i see after 2 is it's still close cuz we could be down alot here

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/3/2009 at 3:59 PM

Agreed, this could be a lot worse. Part of that is that Ozzie has come up big a couple times. Him and Helm are the only guys who seem to care right now.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 4:00 PM

yeah thank you Ozzie hopefully we can get an early PP here and even this thing up cuz right now they have the swagger and are playing like it where as our guys are just playing with no urgency the first 5 of the 3rd will tell us alot about how much we care

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/3/2009 at 4:07 PM

Helm looking good again but there was an odd-man rush there with no shot. Gotta get a shot off there, can't get so pretty.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 4:19 PM

THANK YOU POST!!!

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/3/2009 at 4:23 PM

According to NBC announcers you can get unsportsmanlike for spraying snow?

Uhhhh... mmmk?

Posted by drwmike33 on 5/3/2009 at 4:30 PM

That's right, snow is penalty-worthy but crashing on Osgood (Perry, ass) isn't an issue.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 4:32 PM

Talk about a nerve wracking period.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 5/3/2009 at 4:48 PM

I hate overtime. This series is gonna kill me.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 4:49 PM

Franzen: "We had to get back into the game and score a goal. So I did."

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 4:50 PM

i didn't wanna see OT either my nerves are bad enough as it is but at least we looked alive in the 3rd

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/3/2009 at 4:53 PM

Agreed, the Wings finally looked good. Shots 9-2 in favor of Detroit. You'd think that's a good sign but I just have this horrible image of one blown defense assignment.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 5/3/2009 at 4:57 PM

Oh god. I had to go, and now it's overtime? Aaargh!

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 5/3/2009 at 4:57 PM

god could NBC swing on Getzlaf's sack a little harder maybe? lol

Posted by bigred4478 on 5/3/2009 at 5:02 PM
