Misconduct

Red Wings - Flyers Pregame Notes

Happy St. Patrick's Day to those of you sober enough to be reading this.

I'm coming at you from hazy but warm Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where I'm amazed to find that I'm in a hotel that actually gets Versus so I'll be able to watch the game tonight. If I can get a better Internet setup going, I'll even be in on the gameday thread.

Also in: Chris Osgood. He'll be making his third start in a row after smacking around the Blues and Blue Jackets over the weekend. From the sound of things, he'll be given every chance to prove he should be the playoff starter.

Questionable for the game is Valtteri Filppula, who also missed Sunday's game in Columbus.

Does it count that I'm sober? P: How's the beach? IT'S ACTUALLY WARM UP NORTH.

I am happy, I think besides Montreal the Flyers are my favorite Eastern team. + It's a different team for a change! I hope Filppula makes it in tonight. And now, I leave.

Happy St. Pat's everyone.

I knew people at your age who would not have been sober, so I say it counts.

It may be warm up there but do you have an ocean out your window? I think not. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.png" /> Actually, I don't even care about the ocean but this isn't my part of the trip.

Confirming that I now have better Internet access and will be around for the GDT.

Scott Hartnell says the way for the Flyers to beat the Wings is to be physical with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. 'Cause that's worked so well for every other team in the league.

Out to the beach I go...

The Detroit News confirms that Valtteri Filppula is out tonight but may return on Friday in Atlanta.

Tomas Holmstrom is also out, having strained his knee late in the game Sunday.

Derek Meech and Brett Lebda both practiced at forward to fill the open roster spots.

Kopy playing with Datsyuk and Franzen? Wow.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 7:43 PM

Hartnell's throwing punches in there, call that sh*t.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 7:47 PM

I already miss FSN, even though Versus isn't exactly terrible yet.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/17/2009 at 7:48 PM

So it's gonna be one of those games. Whistle blows, punches thrown. And if the refs keep calling both players it won't stop.

Edit: They sent Sammy to the box but then didn't give him a penalty? Weird.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 7:54 PM

Biron got square to every one of those shots. Ugh.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 7:58 PM

I agree, Biron is good. Too many penalties.

Congrats to Draper! Man, he's getting up there.

Does the 1000th game include playoffs, or is it just regular season? We're having a spat about it.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/17/2009 at 8:00 PM

Flyers get the first goal. Darrrrrnit.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/17/2009 at 8:13 PM

Of course that dick Hartnell scores. Jesus.

We're having a spat about it.

IIRC, no playoffs.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 8:14 PM

Glitch goal! Glitch goal! sh*t, it's real. Damn.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/17/2009 at 8:16 PM

Hossa finally gets a quality scoring chance for the Wings. Then takes a penalty.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 8:17 PM

Huge stop by Ozzie. Damn, I was worried there.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 8:20 PM

Patrick Roy, my favorite person! Joy of joys :|

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/17/2009 at 8:29 PM

Flyers scoring on every f*cking odd-man rush they get. Jesus Christ.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 8:45 PM

MASTADONIC LEAD BY PHILLY?

I think not.

2 - 0 Flyers. Ugh.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/17/2009 at 8:46 PM

Wings are passing too much when they do get offensive rushes. Still trying to be too cute.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 9:10 PM

Philly are obviously cheesing.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/17/2009 at 9:12 PM

Like THAT, motherf*ckers! No pass, just a big damned shot.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 9:12 PM

Pavel Datsyuk is amazing. 2 - 1 Wings.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/17/2009 at 9:12 PM

Crowd is awake and Pavel Shanahan gets the Irish Jig.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 9:13 PM

That's why Datsyuk plays for a legit Div 1 team.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/17/2009 at 9:16 PM

I'm gonna be p*ssed if the Wings game is going on and I'm stuck watching Brodeur celebrate.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 9:31 PM

Oh, hey, apparently Versus decided for me that I'd rather watch Brodeur. Thanks, assholes.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 9:35 PM

I thought I was hallucinating for a second there. What, New Jersey just won the Stanley Cup? Oh, no, it just seemed like it.

I'll get back to my NHL 09 OTP references now.

Brodeur's clearly a 99er.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/17/2009 at 9:39 PM

J.M.F. Franzen! All tied up!

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 9:49 PM

That is not the Irish Jig, the official name is 'Irish Washerwoman'. Or something around that. It's a popular Canadian / Irish fiddle tune, which I've heard my fair share of. Popular with the older folks.

Datsyuk and Franzen again. BAMF.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/17/2009 at 9:51 PM

Johan O'Franzen gets the Oirish treatment as well.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/17/2009 at 9:51 PM

Sammy to Zata, and look at the Big Rig coming up on the rush!

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 9:52 PM

Now Zetterberg. This is getting more bedazzling each second. The same song...again. I hope they never play on St. Pat's again.

Are you not old enough to remember that being played for Brendan Shanahan every time he scored? They called it the Irish Jig then, whatever it may officially be called.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 9:54 PM

Henrik McZetterberg now. He must be from Northern Ireland....very very Northern.

I'm plenty old enough, I went on a hiatus from hockey when my brother graduated from high school in the early 00's, though. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />Just saying. Coming from a fiddle player, that's the official name <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.png" />

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/17/2009 at 9:57 PM

And unless he's an idiot, Babs takes his time out here.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 10:07 PM

Spotted 'em two and still come out with the win. Hell yeah.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/17/2009 at 10:10 PM

3 - 2. Awesome, our favorite song is playing again!

Goodnight, all. Writing OGT tomorrow <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" /> Hopefully the 'Irish Jig' is not stuck in my head.

Enjoy the beach, also!
