Red Wings - Flames Pregame Notes

Just a reminder, the Red Wings' game tonight against the Calgary Flames has a 7:00 PM start, not the 7:30 PM we're all used to.

Detroit will be going with a similar lineup to what they used against Phoenix on Tuesday. Brett Lebda is back in on the blue line, replacing Chris Chelios.

Ty Conklin gets his second start in a row and coach Mike Babcock changes up his goalie rotation. Conklin's home winning streak will be tested tonight while Chris Osgood's superior record against the St. Louis Blues will be taken advantage of on Saturday.

Marian Hossa remains out, aiming for a Saturday return.

No last-minute updates but I'll be missing most of this one, I've got a 7:30 soccer game tonight. I'll catch up when I get back.

Wings on the Powerplay. Tiny scrum in front of the net.

Let's get a goal!

________

EUROTWINS <3

They had some good chances and finally scored! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/welcome.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":welcome:" border="0" alt="welcome.gif" />

Pretty sure that was Zetterberg's.

Oh man, Cleary is hurt. Went into the boards funny.

5:00 powerplay for boarding.

____

5 on 3 for two minutes.

_____

Another scrum in front of the net, another penalty...which won't start for another 30 seconds.

This game is odd.

HOLY CRAP! There are four Calgary players in the box! Franzen just got in a tiny fight and is now in the box, too. BUT FOUR CALGARY PLAYERS.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/12/2009 at 7:47 PM

A typical Keenan-coached team....

Haha, that's cute! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.png" /> + Thanks for giving me some company on here, since it's basically me running up my post count <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/welcome.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":welcome:" border="0" alt="welcome.gif" />

And Samuelsson scores! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.png" /> 2 - 1 Wings.

Stupid clock change lag week, caught me out again, missed the first period.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/12/2009 at 8:18 PM

Lidstrom on the 4 on 3, looked pretty inevitable.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/12/2009 at 8:34 PM

Dr. Fil is still bedazzling <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/sleep.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.png" />

<3

4 - 1 Wings.

And then the Langkow scores.

4 - 2.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/12/2009 at 8:44 PM

Zetterberg had half a chance on the wraparound, just couldn't quite do it.

I've got a photo somewhere of four or five Kings in the box. Hooray for thuggery. At least that's how Ken Kal and Paul Woods implied the Flames were playing. I haven't seen any of it yet but I like the score.I allowed fewer goals than Conklin, I'll try to pass my good karma on to him. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sleep.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.png" />

Spending too much time in the Wings' zone right now. Limiting shots but still too much risk being down there.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:24 PM

And then a solid shift in the Calgary end. Nice.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:29 PM

Wings without a shot 3/4 of the way through the third? Insane, but I'd rather they play solid D right now anyway.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:34 PM

4 - 3 with 3 and a half minutes left :|

Yikeeeees.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/12/2009 at 9:39 PM

Aww damnit. Bounced off Draper right to the right spot for the Flames. Ugh.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:40 PM

That was an awful goal. WTF, Conks?

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:41 PM

Damndamndamndamndamn.

Lawdy, lawdy, miracle time! I don't want overtime, as conceited as it is.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/12/2009 at 9:42 PM

Jesus f*cking Christ.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:45 PM

Do I not like that that. You're blowing your seals no. 1 stop opportunity Conklin.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/12/2009 at 9:45 PM

What a mother. A huge one :|

If the Wings don't tie it up and the Flames score again, I'll be very angry with them for blowing the lead.

__

THANK GOD IT'S TIED NOW!

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/12/2009 at 9:45 PM

I said before the fifth Calgary goal, the Wings need to score on their first shot of the period. They did, thankfully.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:47 PM

Crazy game. Just crazy.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/12/2009 at 9:47 PM

The Wings get a point they don't deserve after that clusterf*ck of a period.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:48 PM

How was that not goalie interference?

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:56 PM

Abomination of a game deserves a shootout. Ugh.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 9:57 PM

Datsyuk never disappoints <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/sleep.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.png" /> Thank god he's a Wing.

And Camalleri (or however his name is spelled) scores too.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/12/2009 at 10:00 PM

Zata tried the postage stamp move. Fail.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 10:01 PM

Bad feeling...

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 10:02 PM

Called it. Conklin sucked from what I saw.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 10:03 PM

Well, I think we've heard enough 'damn's from me tonight. :| That really sucks, but I think they kinda deserved it after giving up the lead.

Over and out.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 3/12/2009 at 10:03 PM

Flames win a game they had no chance of at one point, but the wings get a point from a game they threw away from the first faceoff in the third period. I fear for them in the playoffs, the defense is falling apart.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 3/12/2009 at 10:05 PM

How many lessons do we (the Wings) need to learn before the playoffs, and why were they playing (seemingly) to protect the lead in the 3rd (instead of playing to pad the lead)? Or was the Flames' defense just that good...? Doubt it.

Quoted for truth. Aside from two shifts (the one in the middle of the period that I mentioned and the one they scored on at the end) the Wings played back the entire third period. Looked better in overtime but that's not saying much.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 10:20 PM

The insane thing is that the Blues managed to beat the Sharks tonight, so the Wings actually gained a point on San Jose in spite of this ridiculous mess.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 3/12/2009 at 11:16 PM

<img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/sleep.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.png" /> that was ridiculous i mean they just totally went into a shell we had a HUGE lead in shots goin into the 3rd and the Flames almost evened it up in one period i really can't blame Conklin do to the ridiculous amount of shots he faced in the 3rd and it showed at the end. My only ? is why do you just abandon any sort of attempt at an offensive rush it wasn't like we dominated them (we scored 3 of the first 4 on the PP i think)the Flames were beating themselves just a bad call it was a good game to watch for bein my first live i just hope they learn from this and do not let it happen again

Posted by bigred4478 on 3/13/2009 at 1:18 AM

Conklin embarrassed himself in the shootout. I think that his confidence was totally gone. Babcock has to kick butt now. These types of losses, combined with a couple of 8 goal disasters, can absolutely kill a team. Especially bad timing with playoffs coming.

That name looks strangely familiar.......no idea where from.

I'm not the only one in my family who pretends like he knows what he's talking about when it comes to the Wings. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/sleep.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.png" />
