I'm not going to waste my time recapping a game the Red Wings didn't deserve to get a point from.
If a team is going to collapse into defense-only play to preserve a third-period lead, they'd damn well better succeed at preserving that lead. Detroit stopped playing offense Thursday night and still managed to blow their lead. What a mess.
No last-minute updates but I'll be missing most of this one, I've got a 7:30 soccer game tonight. I'll catch up when I get back.

I said before the fifth Calgary goal, the Wings need to score on their first shot of the period. They did, thankfully.

Flames win a game they had no chance of at one point, but the wings get a point from a game they threw away from the first faceoff in the third period. I fear for them in the playoffs, the defense is falling apart.
How many lessons do we (the Wings) need to learn before the playoffs, and why were they playing (seemingly) to protect the lead in the 3rd (instead of playing to pad the lead)? Or was the Flames' defense just that good...? Doubt it.

Quoted for truth. Aside from two shifts (the one in the middle of the period that I mentioned and the one they scored on at the end) the Wings played back the entire third period. Looked better in overtime but that's not saying much.
The insane thing is that the Blues managed to beat the Sharks tonight, so the Wings actually gained a point on San Jose in spite of this ridiculous mess.
that was ridiculous i mean they just totally went into a shell we had a HUGE lead in shots goin into the 3rd and the Flames almost evened it up in one period i really can't blame Conklin do to the ridiculous amount of shots he faced in the 3rd and it showed at the end. My only ? is why do you just abandon any sort of attempt at an offensive rush it wasn't like we dominated them (we scored 3 of the first 4 on the PP i think)the Flames were beating themselves just a bad call it was a good game to watch for bein my first live i just hope they learn from this and do not let it happen again
Conklin embarrassed himself in the shootout. I think that his confidence was totally gone. Babcock has to kick butt now. These types of losses, combined with a couple of 8 goal disasters, can absolutely kill a team. Especially bad timing with playoffs coming.

I'm not the only one in my family who pretends like he knows what he's talking about when it comes to the Wings.
