Misconduct

Red Wings - Sharks Pregame Notes

The top two teams in the Western Conference meet tonight as the San Jose Sharks visit the Detroit Red Wings. The race is still close enough that a win is important for both teams.

Chris Chelios and Tomas Kopecky will be the healthy scratches for Detroit tonight as Brad Stuart returns to the Red Wings' blueline and Kris Draper takes his spot back on the fourth line rotation.

Ty Conklin gets the start in net.

Much has been made of Claude Lemeiux's return to Joe Louis Arena but I think he's a washed-up has-been so I won't give him more words than that.

The Pistons have been shifted to FSN+ so this one is on standard FSN and FSN-HD.

Nabokov messed up on that one.

Wings' power play looked awful until Hossa scored. That was entirely an individual effort, great move on the boards and a lot of luck that it slipped through Nabokov.

"Familiar #32." Uh, Ken, I'd think Wings fans are more familiar with Lemieux wearing the #22 he wore in Denver.

Zata misses a wide-open net. Someone send an EMT.

Ville Leino is a motherf*cking pimp! Banged it out of mid-air.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:11 PM

But the sharks cancel it out straight away.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 2/25/2009 at 8:13 PM

No way they'll call this back but I don't think it crossed the line.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:14 PM

Overturned, bitches! And that ref can blow me for being so demonstratively wrong.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:16 PM

Wow, it got called back. Wasn't expecting that.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 2/25/2009 at 8:18 PM

Absolutely wasn't expecting that called back but the Sharks get the make-up PP.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:19 PM

Good, good kill. Whew.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:21 PM

That was a pretty intense first period. The Red Wings were playing pretty tough. Good to see but they'll have to keep it up.

They got some lucky breaks, too. What a goal by Leino!

Both teams look a bit reckless out there. Some excellent bang bang plays by the wings, but it's still choppy. Not that I expected differently.

Very physical. For a little bit there, I was waiting for a ice wide fight. We may still see it. We're in for a nail biter folks!

Thornton continues being an idiot. Works for me.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:41 PM

Zata. Holy sh*t. Nabokov is gonna have nightmares about that.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:46 PM

As he was turning around, I was thinking "goal". There was no doubt about it. What a play.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 2/25/2009 at 8:48 PM

Knew that was coming. Damnit.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:51 PM

Hossa to the dressing room. Not good.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 8:59 PM

Sammy needs a goal tonight. He's trying to prove himself.

Wings hold onto the two-goal lead heading into the third. I'm not going to be calm until this game is over. And only then if the Wings can keep this up.

Babcock says nothing about Hossa's injury.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 9:29 PM

Just watching the clock now. Don't think I've been this nervous for a regular season game in awhile.

How bad was Hossa's injury? ):

I just spent the last 3 hours at Honors Orchestra. Not fun hanging out with a group of stuck-up kids. (Yikes, I just realized how that might sound about me! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />)

At least Hossa produced some before he got hurt too, am I right? <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />

Helm was sooooo close. ): And now I'm sad he didn't score there.

I liked Datsyuk's innocent act. Tip my hat to Boyle, awesome way to lose someone.

Zetterberg gets a goal!

Zata again! Guess I'm wearing his jersey tomorrow.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 10:02 PM

Zata to the box, I guess there's not gonna be free Arby's tomorrow.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/25/2009 at 10:04 PM

Hopefully that should finish it, barring some sort of miracle.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 2/25/2009 at 10:04 PM

And I can breathe easy. Solid game overall.

No word.

ESPN's game recap says he didn't play the third for precautionary reasons...for your team and my pool, I hope they are right.

That's what the Detroit postgame said, too. Of course, he could be out several games for "precautionary" reasons at this point. I guess we'll know more Friday.
