The Red Wings look to snap their skid in Washington this afternoon, an early game starting at 12:30.
Ty Conklin gets the start for Detroit, who will be without Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom. Ville Leino makes his NHL debut and Justin Abdelkader makes his first appearance of the season. Derek Meech will play up front if game-time-decision Jiri Hudler can't go.
Let me just get this out of the way... I hate afternoon games. They're not as bad on a day like today where it's frikkin' cold outside but I use my weekend afternoons to get stuff done, I hate taking the middle of the day for hockey, hockey is a night game.
Abs and Leino both get early shifts. Wings haven't screwed anything up yet but they go on the PK now.
Good early kill. Caps with a ton of pressure. They play like the Wings, I'd like watching them if they weren't playing Detroit.
Wings played pretty good up until...well. I don't know. When the Caps scored those two third period goals that was crap. But otherwise a good game.
Leino's goal was kickass ![]()
Ovechkin is great, too!
Wings played pretty good up until...well. I don't know.
That sums it up really well. The Wings weren't playing great but were right in it and then bam, they're down two goals and it's over.
I was thrilled to see leino in the lineup, as well as abdelkader. Leino played well in the preseason and showed that he had a way of getting the puck in the net. I have some predictions after the half way point this season.
West Conference finals: SJ v DET
East Conference finals: NJ v BOS
Stanley Cup Finals: SJ v NJ
2009 Champions San Jose
I hope Im wrong but these 4 teams have been the most consistent
Only other team id throw in there maybe is washington for boston but boston has the goalies
San jose has better team than wings, i believe its the sharks year finally. Setoguchi is on par with hossa as far as production goes, which shows how good sharks are playing. Hossa hasnt fit in to be honest and is weak on the boards and gives up the puck easily. Hossa also doesn't allow for as many call ups from grand rapids as we need some young players to progress. Goaltending has been an issue but i think it will get better as the season goes on.
New Jersey is a team that has been consistent even without brodeur. They added shanny and they have a well rounded team.
