More on the All-Star Mess

The buzz all day has been that Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk will be suspended one game for missing the All-Star Game this weekend.

Honestly, I have no words for this. Malik has a couple posts about it. For those in a more embittered mood, Bill at A2Y has words as well.

I heard NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly on NHL Home Ice on my way home, only caught a few minutes before turning it off lest I run someone off the road. His line was (and I'm paraphrasing) that for whatever reason, if a player needs to rest over the All-Star break then they need to rest for a regular season game, too.

Great, now we've got the NHL telling us how injured our players are. Fantastic.

That's....wow. Angering, to put it lightly. I especially dislike Marleau too, pity.

I don't know if I will watch cause of said circumstances & the fact that it's on Versus again (I'm assuming) and their awful commentators. Unless they get better ones since the All-Star game is huge?

But I might watch cause I like to see people from the Eastern conference play, since that only happens once every blue moon.

Enjoy your extra three hours, though! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />

Whether your players are in the game or not, the all-star game is a colossal waste of time. I do watch the skills competition because it's something different than you see night to night and I'm a sucker for the pre-game intros.

After that they "game" may stay on as background noise.

No player from the Stanley Cup champs is a joke though. Fan balloting needs to go away.

I said this last year or the year before but I swear the ASG didn't used to suck so much. I remember being psyched about it in the mid-90s. Was that just because I was younger and didn't know any better or has it really gotten worse?

What a load of bollocks. As that rule exists, then there should be a rule that an player who misses a regular season game through injury also has to miss the next game. It makes no sense. I used to get a bit excited about the all-star game, but I think it was the novelty value.

Whatthef--- kind of rule is that? >:| That makes me angry. I'd like to break whoever made that rule's leg and then tell them they have to play in the All-Star game or get a day off of their job without pay!:c That's the most stupid thing I've heard in awhile. A long, long while.--I forgot whose blog it was, but the one with the quote of the old man from Florida made me feel better <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />

"I don't know exactly what Gary has said, but we've always encouraged our players to go and they have over the years," Holland said. "We played in the Winter Classic when asked even though there was some internal opposition. We gave up our traditional New Year's Eve game. We've helped carry the flag for the league for more than a decade. I think we've tried to be good partners in these things. I understand the All-Star Game is important, but I'm not going to tell Nick and Pavel to go either."

Goddamned straight, Kenny.

And to add fuel to the fire...Are Hossa and Rafalski really in a position to decline? Now, they were made part of the all-star game, but chose not to go. Should they be not allowed to play vs C-bus?

I think the Wings are playing a power hand here. As a team they rightfully felt snubbed and have made a stand.

Be interesting to watch it unfold. I think Wings will quietly rest Nick and Dats one more game...too bad really.

It was funny during intros that I explained to my son how every team was represented...then I thought to myself...except the Champs...ridiculous.

Anyone know the score? I've been playing Lego Star Wars.

I just turned it on. I thought it was on last night. Haha, shows how long I've been around <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />

Holy Christ! The score is West 10 - East 9. That's a little too much for me.

And at least Mike Babcock's there. But I'm still not cheery over this whole thing.

Haha, it went into overtime and I didn't even notice.

11-11 now, well obviously since they're in OT.

Less than a minute.

----

East wins it in the shootout.

Alex Kovalev won the car.

I only saw the shootout. The east win, and Kovalev wins the MVP, and wins a pick-up truck, because it's not like he doesn't own some better cars already, bought in cash.
