How to describe the Red Wings' overtime loss to the Dallas Stars last night?
I dunno, I've got nothing. I keep coming back to this, trying to write about it, and all I can think of is the crazy vocabulary of the Versus announcers. I have no idea who they were (I don't listen to national announcers all that much, I like Ken and Mickey too much) but I have the feeling I never want to hear them again.
There is a part of me that wants to work "mastodonic" into my every day vocabulary but then I realize anyone using it just comes across as a supreme douchebag. Yes, it's an accurate description of the Chris Osgood save to which it was applied but its use smacks of superfluousness (there's an SAT word for you).
Then we've got Pavel Datsyuk as the "Valedictorian of Awesome School." "Awesome School?" Seriously? Chris Creamer calls it ESPN2 circa 1996 and I've gotta agree.
Malik might have a complaint but I'm going to Latin that one up. Awesomus Prime. First in awesomeness.
Study up, there'll be a test on this. Mastodonic. Superfluousness. Vox populi. Awesomus Prime.
As for the game... Osgood faced fifty damned shots. I think that explans things pretty well. When you can allow five goals and still come out of it with a .900 save percentage you did your job. I'm just leaving it at that.
"The following is a presentation of the National Hockey League." or "The following takes place between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM." Either way, it's a night with Kiefer. I won't hesitate to switch to 24 if the Wings suck.
Raffy puts a shot off of Loui Eriksson. Turco way out of position looking for the tip from Franzen. Way to go Marty.
Christ! Datsyuk just knocked up that chick in the front row, that's how badass that move was.
Haha! What an interesting way to describe that! <3
That was an amazing goal. Amazing. Cool to see the Wings in front!
Versus just confirmed what I thought, Hossa stopped the puck himself knowing he had kicked it and needed to put it in off his stick. Turco just got there, great stop.
Holy hell. Datsyuk with a defender all over him, another sprawled out in front of him, and Turco in net. And he scores.
Stars through everything, including the kitchen sink at the Wings, and could barely beat them. The Stars team looks like the team from last year, in desperation mode. Good game by the stars though they basically gave all they could, and could never keep up that same pace through 82 games or a 7 game series for that matter. I can tell they dislike the wings with passion. Osgood made some insane saves. Wings got a point out of all of that so keep the heads held up high.

THANK YOU. That's all we did during the third period, was made fun of the announcers ;D I can't remember which announcer it was, but someone kept trying to make himself sound French, and made me embarrassed. I'm only in French 2 A at my school. It was terrible.
Mastadonic was probably my favourite, though ![]()
Even though I am obviously sad the Wings lost, I can't be too moody cause they did win 6 straight. I can be angry over the fact that Kronwall was listed as Kopecky in a picture caption in my newspaper, though!
Ok, so you made me Wikipedia Vox Populi. Refering to a term used by journalists and reporters as a impromptu question or interview to someone on the street. Making stuff up on the fly. I get it.
Also a reference to a Simpsons episode " Vox Nerduli"
