Red Wings - Stars Pregame Notes

With the back-half of the typically-insane four-hour premiere of 24 kicking off at the same time as the start of the Red Wings' road game in Dallas, I have this feeling that I should put new batteries in my TV remote tonight.

The Wings start their six-game road trip (with the All-Star break coming before the sixth) with Chris Osgood in net. Mike Babcock continues his goalie rotation but says that'll end soon (if not after tonight's game). I'll believe it when I see it.

Niklas Kronwall is back in the lineup after the mystery scratch on Saturday. This puts Derek Meech and Chris Chelios in the press box.

"The following is a presentation of the National Hockey League." or "The following takes place between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM." Either way, it's a night with Kiefer. I won't hesitate to switch to 24 if the Wings suck.

Raffy puts a shot off of Loui Eriksson. Turco way out of position looking for the tip from Franzen. Way to go Marty.

Christ! Datsyuk just knocked up that chick in the front row, that's how badass that move was.

Aww damn, Ozzie got a piece of that but not enough.

Power play goal! Jammed in from the side by Hossa.

Haha! What an interesting way to describe that! <3That was an amazing goal. Amazing. Cool to see the Wings in front!

Ugh, another one tipped by a defenseman past Osgood.

What a f*cking amazing stop.

Agile like a cat!!!

Versus just confirmed what I thought, Hossa stopped the puck himself knowing he had kicked it and needed to put it in off his stick. Turco just got there, great stop.

Shoot the f*cking puck, kids. It's Turco.

I said "Uh-oh" one second before that. Maltby got f*cking burned.

Oh Ozzie, that was nice.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 1/12/2009 at 9:39 PM

Holy hell. Datsyuk with a defender all over him, another sprawled out in front of him, and Turco in net. And he scores.

"The Valedictorian at Awesome School?" That's a f*cking great line.

Keep giving them power plays and that's gonna happen. f*ck.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 1/12/2009 at 10:30 PM

f*ck it, I'll take a point right now.

Can't say that end was unexpected. Oh well.

Stars through everything, including the kitchen sink at the Wings, and could barely beat them. The Stars team looks like the team from last year, in desperation mode. Good game by the stars though they basically gave all they could, and could never keep up that same pace through 82 games or a 7 game series for that matter. I can tell they dislike the wings with passion. Osgood made some insane saves. Wings got a point out of all of that so keep the heads held up high.

How to describe the Red Wings' overtime loss to the Dallas Stars last night?I dunno, I've got nothing. I keep coming back to this, trying to write about it, and all I can think of is the crazy vocabulary of the Versus announcers. I have no idea who they were (I don't listen to national announcers all that much, I like Ken and Mickey too much) but I have the feeling I never want to hear them again. There is a part of me that wants to work "mastodonic" into my every day vocabulary but then I realize anyone using it just comes across as a supreme douchebag. Yes, it's an accurate description of the Chris Osgood save to which it was applied but its use smacks of superfluousness (there's an SAT word for you). Then we've got Pavel Datsyuk as the "Valedictorian of Awesome School." "Awesome School?" Seriously? Chris Creamer calls it ESPN2 circa 1996 and I've gotta agree.Malik might have a complaint but I'm going to Latin that one up. Awesomus Prime. First in awesomeness.Study up, there'll be a test on this. Mastodonic. Superfluousness. Vox populi. Awesomus Prime.

THANK YOU. That's all we did during the third period, was made fun of the announcers ;D I can't remember which announcer it was, but someone kept trying to make himself sound French, and made me embarrassed. I'm only in French 2 A at my school. It was terrible.Mastadonic was probably my favourite, though <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />Even though I am obviously sad the Wings lost, I can't be too moody cause they did win 6 straight. I can be angry over the fact that Kronwall was listed as Kopecky in a picture caption in my newspaper, though!

Ok, so you made me Wikipedia Vox Populi. Refering to a term used by journalists and reporters as a impromptu question or interview to someone on the street. Making stuff up on the fly. I get it.

Also a reference to a Simpsons episode " Vox Nerduli"

The vox populi reference was from the Malik post I linked to.

As I also astutely avoided taking Latin and/or classical studies at every turn, I had to look up "vox populi," a.k.a. the "voice of the people."

He's used that line before.
