Misconduct

Red Wings - Blues Postgame Notes

An early Merry Christmas (or a happy whatever holiday you may be celebrating) to everyone out there. I figure I'll get that out of the way since I'm unlikely to be posting again until Friday's matchup in Nashville.

I'll keep my thoughts on last night's 4-1 win over St. Louis short.

Brad Stuart wasn't one of the three stars of the game but he could have been. As George Malik pointed out, Stuart registered an assist, two hits, a blocked shot, and one shot in 17:49 of ice time. His strong play jumping up is what allowed Detroit's third goal to happen.

Another unexpected strong play was Marian Hossa's hit on Jeff Woywitka, forcing the first of two turnovers that led to the Wings' fourth goal.

Power play, even strength, shorthanded... The Red Wings were "on" in all situations and it showed. Aside from a few minutes early on, the Blues were never really in the game. The shots seem to show otherwise but they're distorted by the high number of penalties called.

Chris Osgood will remain on the bench tonight as the Red Wings host the St. Louis Blues. The former Blue determined at today's morning skate that his injured groin had healed enough that he would not need to be placed on long-term injured reserve.

"I should be ready to go after Christmas,'' Osgood said. "Two more days (of rest), that'll make it 10 days (since his last game), that'll be perfect. It was just tight but I want it to be 100 percent so I know I won't hurt it again for the rest of the year.''

Ty Conklin gets the start for Detroit as Jimmy Howard and Daniel Larsson remain with Grand Rapids. The Blues are reeling, coming off a 6-3 loss to the Boston Bruins on Sunday. After that game, head coach Andy Murray called out several players by name, something that Bill over at A2Y has been celebrating all week. I won't tempt fate quite as much as Bill is, I'll just add to his list of videos with my oft-posted all-time favorite save.Just a reminder, the Pistons are on tonight so the Wings have been shifted to FSN+. Blues getting the chances early but no luck. Fine by me.

Datsyuk the sniper. That was a hell of a shot with Homer screening.

Lidstrom on the five-on-three. What a blast.

Pure stupidity leading to that five-on-three, the hit on Holmstrom would have looked bad but been legal if he hadn't gotten his stick up.

Lidstrom straightaway on the 5 on 3. Great pass by Zetterberg. But now it's 4 on 4.

With the Wings up it's kind of cheap to complain but Legace totally dove to get the goalie interference call.

Awful call on Fil to make it a five-on-three.

The puck was in but this shouldn't be a goal, Legace was pushed in by Kopy. Not that it made a difference back in the 2007 playoffs.

Wings skating circles around the Blues on that third goal.

What a deke on the defenseman by Datsyuk to make it 4-0.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 12/23/2008 at 9:01 PM

Hossa knocks the sh*t out of Woywitka to force a turnover and Datsyuk with the crazy deke to make it 4-0. Wow.

Murphy says of Hossa "If he's behind you, you have to remember he's going to catch you."

Makes me think we need to adapt a Chuck Norris Fact:

"If you can see Marian Hossa, he can see you. If you can't see Marian Hossa, you may be only seconds from being scored on."

I'm pretty ticked. The FSN+ channel for my cable isn't carrying the game anymore.

Splendid! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" /> Simply amazing.

They were carrying it and cut away or it never came on?

That blows, I remember having to deal with that with a Columbus game last spring.

Backes tries to start a fight once the game's already over but nothing comes of it, Wings finish off the 4-1 win.

It went off during the second intermission and came back with about three minutes left in the third. At least I didn't miss much <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" />Happy holidays everyone, cause this is probably the last post I'll make until the next game <3
