Darren McCarty, back from his one-game stint with the Grand Rapids Griffins, will miss tonight's Red Wings - Blue Jackets matchup. McCarty tweaked a groin injury at Detroit's morning skate.
Derek Meech will remain at forward to replace McCarty on the fourth line after originally expecting to be a healthy scratch.
The only other major lineup change from Wednesday's loss to Montreal is the return of Dan Cleary, who will skate alongside Valtteri Filppula and Jiri Hudler on the third line.
Chris Osgood will replace Ty Conklin in the Red Wings' crease.
It will be nice to have Clears back in the lineup. I also saw that Chelios was skating at practice and he should be making a return early next month.
Cheli looks to be a week away, by all reports. But he's been quick to say that he needs a "preseason" of sorts.
Ohio must've done something wrong the day it was blessed with the Blue Jackets ![]()
I don't want to be over-confident or cocky, but the Wings shouldn't be outplayed tonight. So that's a reason to be optimistic. I'd like to see Dr. Fil do something!
Commodore in the box, so hopefully the 'best power-play in the league' gets something going!
Like I said, that's how it's going right now. When was the last time the Wings had a puck bounce right to them at the side of the net? Of course, I'd rather have that happen now than in the spring.
Wings get probably their best chance of the period (including on the goal) but litterally run out of time. Damn.
Another power play goal! Great job for Huds to stay with it.
And on that note, I'm on my way out. Got a soccer game tonight so I'll be catching up with the rest of the Wings game later.
Hudler on the Powerplay! Just. Very cynical trip by Commodore for the penalty, serves him right with that goal.
OK. This web page is giving me some real problems tonight.
Despite the lucky goal, Ozzie has been looking real good tonight. Wings are really good on the D so they need to keep the puck and keep it on the offensive end for the W tonight.
Hossa gets his second goal to make it 4-3 with two minutes left.
Awesome. Not going to say anything else because I am feeling a bit superstitious tonight.
Draper with the empty net to get his first goal of the year. Yay for him! ![]()
Also first short-handed goal this season. Did not know that! ![]()
A few notes now that I've gotten caught up...
Maybe it's because I had a rough night in goal myself tonight but I feel bad for Osgood more than blame him on the long goal. He bounced back and made some good saves in the third and his team really bailed him out.
Leclaire did the same, Hossa's GWG was an awful goal to give up but then he turned around and made an absolutely insane save on Franzen.
Funny that Draper can hit the net on a backhander from his own end but can't finish on a 2-on-1.
In all, no complaints, though there probably should be.
