Derek Meech will replace Brad Stuart in the Red Wings lineup tonight, according to Mlive's Ansar Khan.
Stuart did not take the morning skate, opting to rest his bruised knee. He's expected to return next Wednesday when Detroit visits the St. Louis Blues.
This will mark Meech's first game of the season. He will play in Stuart's spot alongside Niklas Kronwall.
One other change for the game against the New York Rangers will be Dan Cleary donning a visor to protect an irritated left eye. Cleary says that if he can get used to the visor he will keep it on permanently.

Zetterberg is expected to be out again tonight (no confirmation as far as I can tell) and there's no word on whether or not Stuart will miss time after he was hurt blocking a shot against Vancouver. The Wings won't have to call anyone up to replace him if he's out as Derek Meech could see his first action of the season.
I might miss this one, I've got tentative plans tonight.
Rangerland also has their gameday thread open for anyone who wants to go start trouble. ![]()
Meech! Holy sh*t! First shift of the season, first shot of the season, and Meech blasts a shot deflected by Sammy and in.
Game's really slowing down. Seems like both teams might be content to ride out the first and regroup at intermission.
I don't think either team is happy after the first. Detroit got on the board quick but still looked sloppy. The Rangers were sloppy to start but got a little better as the period went on. No real sustained pressure for either team, New York had one shift where they kept the puck in for awhile but no solid chances on it.
Sammy so close. I thought Lundqvist got more of that but the replay shows Sammy got a better shot off than I had thought.
Ouch, Wings didn't even get set up on the five-on-three. Maybe they can do something with fresh ice.
Watchin the game on NHL.com in Norfolk, VA
The online version of Center Ice? Is the resolution on that any good? I was thinking of signing up for it.
Resolution is OK. Same as last year. However comma, my view is skipping and jumping more than last year. I'd really like to here from someone else because I'd like to know if it's just my connectivity.
BTW, is anyone watching HNIC? Cherry is wearing a pink silk top!!! DC rules!!
Disappointing to hear about the video quality. When I'm in position to watch non-Wings games I'm usually at a computer, not my TV, otherwise I'd go for normal Center Ice.
Cherry in pink all on his own (wouldn't be a surprise) or for Hockey Fights Cancer?
Since I'm in Norfolk, I'm watching CenterIce more often than not.
As for DC, I'm not sure. It could be Hockey Fights Cancer or just Cherry being Cherry.
BTW, I just ordered the new Camaro today!!!!
Jesus Christ, Wings looked awful to start the period and how the hell did they not clear the zone? God, wake up!
Rangers look like a Camaro compared to the Wings' Caravan.
Mickey says the Wings are getting sloppy. What game has he been watching, they've been sloppy all night.
Wow. The next time the Wings touch the puck with their stick in the defensive zone will be the first this period, they've got it bouncing everywhere else but they're not controlling a damned thing.
Oh sh*t. That was coming. The Rangers have been camped in the wings' defensive zone since the start of the period. The Rangers lead for the first time in the game.
Got to give credit to the Rangers for their forechecking though. They've got the bit between their teeth.
Wings are hing a hard time putting some fire in the tank. I think it's the first timers who are resting on their sticks. Maybe I'm wrong.
Good bit of pressure then, with the puck staying in the Rangers zone for once, and now a freebie powerplay coming up.
The Wings will get at least one point out of this and I'd say they don't deserve it. Maybe they can get two. Glad to see they finally turned it on, though, the last ten minutes have been their best of the season.
