Misconduct

Red Wings - Rangers Game Thoughts

I've said several times tonight that the Red Wings got two points they didn't deserve tonight.

Once again they looked sloppy all over the ice and seemed afraid to forecheck. It wasn't until they had blown the lead they got earlier that they seemed to have any jump to their game.

The first three Detroit goals came on rushes and good bounces, not from any form of continued pressure. By contrast, the Rangers four goals were the result of blown defensive coverage.

With about ten minutes left in the third period, it seemed as though the Red Wings flipped a switch and were suddenly on. For those final ten minutes they looked like the team we're all used to seeing, unafraid of going into the corners and controlling the puck all over the ice.

If they had played the whole game with that kind of intensity, these two points would be deserved.

Zetterberg is expected to be out again tonight (no confirmation as far as I can tell) and there's no word on whether or not Stuart will miss time after he was hurt blocking a shot against Vancouver. The Wings won't have to call anyone up to replace him if he's out as Derek Meech could see his first action of the season.

I might miss this one, I've got tentative plans tonight.

Rangerland also has their gameday thread open for anyone who wants to go start trouble. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/suspect.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":suspect:" border="0" alt="suspect.gif" />

I've got plans for tonight as well, but I'll probably be back in time for the game, I don't know.

Meech! Holy sh*t! First shift of the season, first shot of the season, and Meech blasts a shot deflected by Sammy and in.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 7:10 PM

JMF Franzen!

Lundqvist looks awful, no reason for that rebound.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 7:14 PM

Woa, I miss the first few minutes and I miss two goals Bloody hell.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 7:17 PM

Lundqvist with a nice stop there, hope that doesn't mean he's getting more comfortable.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 7:19 PM

This could be a messy game, Callahan never should have been that open.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 7:22 PM

sh*t, he virtually had the freedom of Detroit to make that shot.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 7:24 PM

Game's really slowing down. Seems like both teams might be content to ride out the first and regroup at intermission.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 7:36 PM

I don't think either team is happy after the first. Detroit got on the board quick but still looked sloppy. The Rangers were sloppy to start but got a little better as the period went on. No real sustained pressure for either team, New York had one shift where they kept the puck in for awhile but no solid chances on it.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 7:53 PM

Meech probably could have been called for taking down Voros.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:14 PM

Hossa with the glorious chance stopped.

Looks like he gets an assist! Redirected goal!

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:19 PM

Yes! Shot by Lidstrom, Holmstrom gets the goal.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 8:20 PM

Sammy so close. I thought Lundqvist got more of that but the replay shows Sammy got a better shot off than I had thought.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:21 PM

Ugh, another wide open Ranger in a faceoff circle. Defense sucks tonight.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:23 PM

Well that lead didn't last long. Dawes levels it up.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 8:23 PM

What the hell was I thinking? Woops. Of course it's 3-2.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 8:25 PM

Has there been any replay of the Hossa interference call? I'd have liked to see it.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:28 PM

Are the Rangers still 100% on the PK? Let's change that, get something going.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:30 PM

D-Riv checking in.

Ouch, Wings didn't even get set up on the five-on-three. Maybe they can do something with fresh ice.

The online version of Center Ice? Is the resolution on that any good? I was thinking of signing up for it.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:35 PM

Resolution is OK. Same as last year. However comma, my view is skipping and jumping more than last year. I'd really like to here from someone else because I'd like to know if it's just my connectivity.

BTW, is anyone watching HNIC? Cherry is wearing a pink silk top!!! DC rules!!

Posted by DetroitRiver on 10/18/2008 at 8:39 PM

Disappointing to hear about the video quality. When I'm in position to watch non-Wings games I'm usually at a computer, not my TV, otherwise I'd go for normal Center Ice.

Cherry in pink all on his own (wouldn't be a surprise) or for Hockey Fights Cancer?

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:47 PM

Since I'm in Norfolk, I'm watching CenterIce more often than not.

As for DC, I'm not sure. It could be Hockey Fights Cancer or just Cherry being Cherry.

BTW, I just ordered the new Camaro today!!!!

Posted by DetroitRiver on 10/18/2008 at 8:51 PM

NUTS!!!

Posted by DetroitRiver on 10/18/2008 at 8:53 PM

f*ck! That must have been deflected.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 8:54 PM

Jesus Christ, Wings looked awful to start the period and how the hell did they not clear the zone? God, wake up!

Rangers look like a Camaro compared to the Wings' Caravan.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:54 PM

Mickey says the Wings are getting sloppy. What game has he been watching, they've been sloppy all night.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:57 PM

Where you at BritishWingsFan?

Posted by DetroitRiver on 10/18/2008 at 8:58 PM

Wow. The next time the Wings touch the puck with their stick in the defensive zone will be the first this period, they've got it bouncing everywhere else but they're not controlling a damned thing.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 8:58 PM

Oh sh*t. That was coming. The Rangers have been camped in the wings' defensive zone since the start of the period. The Rangers lead for the first time in the game.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 8:59 PM

We're missing Z big time tonight.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 10/18/2008 at 9:02 PM

Kopy's still the only guy on this team willing to forecheck.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 9:03 PM

Damnit, what a great chance by Hossa and he's still scoreless.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 9:05 PM

So nearly a shorthanded goal on the 2 on 1 there.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 9:06 PM

Got to give credit to the Rangers for their forechecking though. They've got the bit between their teeth.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 9:11 PM

Wings are hing a hard time putting some fire in the tank. I think it's the first timers who are resting on their sticks. Maybe I'm wrong.

Posted by DetroitRiver on 10/18/2008 at 9:12 PM

Good bit of pressure then, with the puck staying in the Rangers zone for once, and now a freebie powerplay coming up.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 9:19 PM

YEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by DetroitRiver on 10/18/2008 at 9:21 PM

Tied back up! Wings finally playing with some intensity and it pays off!

Posted by DetroitRiver on 10/18/2008 at 9:28 PM

The Wings will get at least one point out of this and I'd say they don't deserve it. Maybe they can get two. Glad to see they finally turned it on, though, the last ten minutes have been their best of the season.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/18/2008 at 9:28 PM

And it's OT again. It's been a great game.........for the neutral.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/18/2008 at 9:29 PM

Hossa with the winner! Welcome to Hockeytown Marian!
