Zetterberg Out Against Canucks, Helm Called Up

The Red Wings will be without Henrik Zetterberg for tonight's matchup with the Vancouver Canucks.

Zetterberg left Wednesday's practice early because of a groin injury and was not present for Thursday's morning skate.

Darren Helm has been called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins to fill the hole in the Red Wings' lineup.

It's sad to see Zata go (if I spelled 'Zata' right? <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.png" />) but I'm thrilled Helm's making the trip up <3

Stupid clogging class ): Oh why, oh why couldn't the game have been LAST night?!?!?! ><img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />

I'll also be missing chunks of the game with a 7:30 soccer game to go to. I'll catch up on the DVR I'm sure but it'll be quieter in here. I'll post any last-minute news before I leave.

I was hoping the game was tomorrow night. Oh well. But I am watching.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 7:40 PM

And Vancouver score. Osgood fooled by the block then the bounce off the backboards.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 7:48 PM

Lots of pressure by the wings, a couple of good chances and a powerplay coming up.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 7:49 PM

Oh, that's in the net. 1-1, definitely. Deflected by Holmstrom. He's on fire. And it's confirmed. Yes!

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 7:53 PM

But Rafalski's still penalised, the time's not been taken off.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 7:55 PM

Oh, the time has actually been wiped off. And the stadium announcer's saying that Datsyuk scored, but Holmstrom definitely touched it.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 7:57 PM

But the Canucks are back in front. Another deflection.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 7:59 PM

And a penalty kill coming up. Hooking by Filppula.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 8:01 PM

And that's the end of the period. A lot of room for improvement to say the least.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 8:16 PM

Impeccable timing on my part. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />

I sat down and they dropped the puck.

Sad to see they're down by one. =/

Rafalski...SCORES! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 10/16/2008 at 8:38 PM

Not any more. Rafalski ties it up!

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 8:39 PM

Most amazing goal this season, I think.

I was almost jumping out out of my seat!

Go Cleary <3

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 10/16/2008 at 8:52 PM

And Cleary scores straight from the penalty box. The wings lead for the first time in the game.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 8:53 PM

Ozzie with two huge stops after the Cleary goal.

Missed the first period and caught up until right before Cleary's goal on the radio, sounds like the Wings haven't been getting a lot of good chances.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/16/2008 at 8:54 PM

What a save. It was like the puck was laser-guided to his glove.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 8:56 PM

Fourth line looking damned good right there. I can't believe Helm isn't even really supposed to be here.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/16/2008 at 8:58 PM

Maltby is making me tiiiiiiicked. =/

He's not going to fight, and if he does, he will surely get beaten up. I believe there is no need for penalties. =/

Vancouver penalty to O'Brien, if I spelled that right? <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 10/16/2008 at 8:58 PM

Ken and Mickey talking about not being able to keep Helm out of the league for long, but where the hell are the Wings going to find room for him? They've got six damn line they could play right now, it's insane. Helm, Abdelkader, Leino, McCarty and Downey could all be on any other NHL team (though technically McCarty is in Detroit).

That period seemed to just fly by.

That it did, but it was pure win <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />I was thinking...last time I went to a game a player was signing books there and smiled at people as they walked by. I think it was Delvecchio. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.png" /> That's such a cool last name!

Damnit. What a clusterf*ck on the Vancouver goal. Have all their goals been like that?

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/16/2008 at 9:31 PM

Costly turnover by Franzen(?) and vancouver make the 2 n 1 then 3 on 1 pay.

For the first one, the shot was blocked, the puck bounced off the backboards to the other side of the goal and the goal was wide open. Second goal was a shot from the left which took a big deflection that looped over Osgood's pad.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 9:35 PM

"He's got a speeding Helm"

Is there any other kind of Helm? <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />

Wings power play got set up a couple times but got no looks. Don't usually see that.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/16/2008 at 9:45 PM

Stewie flexing the knee, since he can move it hopefully that's a good thing.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/16/2008 at 9:50 PM

Cleary should have shot instead of passing to Draper, everyone knows Draper can't finish.

Edit: And we go to OT. First time this season.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/16/2008 at 10:02 PM

And it's OT. I could be in bed right now.

Posted by Britishwingsfan on 10/16/2008 at 10:04 PM

Jesus Christ, that was awful.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 10/16/2008 at 10:06 PM

I hate overtime, and the fact that the Wings just lost XD

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 10/16/2008 at 10:06 PM

f*ck! that was quick. Vancouver get the win. A sub-par performance overall by the wings, especially in the first and third periods.

They still don't look like they did last spring. Mishandling the puck all over the place. And like Mickey just said, Ozzie didn't look good on the GWG.
