Getting back late from the game last night I haven't had time to watch my recording of it so there'll be no recap for now. I have had time to check out what other people have had to say about it so I'll add my two cents.
The Stars fans that are complaining about Detroit's early five-on-three should. That almost never gets called. That said, I've said for a long time that I wish the NHL would cut down on the stuff that happens after the whistle and for once they did. I like that they called it, I wish they would call it more often, but since they don't I think Dallas has a right to complain.
Consistency, people. Is it really that hard? Call it all the time or don't call it at all.
The other complaint I'm seeing is on Holmstrom's goal, that his foot was in the crease.
"We were told that if there's going to be a player in the blue paint that would be no goal," Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. "Obviously that didn't happen."
Not that it hasn't been called before but the crease rule is supposed to be dead. Holmstrom's allowed to be in the crease as long as he doesn't interfere. No sympathy from me, I'll wait to see the replay.
Two things the Wings were supposed to be afraid of just weren't all that fearsome. Marty Turco was beaten back and forth and the Dallas power play couldn't come up with anything.
Brendan Morrow did get a goal and containing him will be a key to this series. I thought Ozzie shouldn't have given up that rebound but he didn't need to play a perfect game so it's okay.
I liked the swap of Kirk Maltby in for Darren McCarty and that should stay for now, Maltby played a really solid game, better than I remember him playing in awhile.
It's obvious that the Wings don't need to change anything going forward in this series. They did all the things they had to. I don't know what Dallas can change but they'll have to find something.
I'll get my photos from the game posted as soon as I have time to go through them, Should be later today.
Valtteri Filppula is in for tonight's game. This means that the Red Wings will have no lineup changes from Game Four against Colorado.
From Khan:
"I felt good,'' Filppula said. "We played a lot this season, so missing a couple of days I don't think is going to be a big deal.''
"I have no problems at all today," he said. "I thought I felt good yesterday, but today I felt even better."
Valtteri Filppula is still questionable for Thursday's series-opening game against Dallas. He's Detroit's only injury.
Dallas looks to be without Phillipe Boucher and Stu Barnes.
More will be known after the morning skates.
I'll be at the game so I probably won't be checking in on the game thread that much.
Swing by and pick me up on your way there.

Yay!
I even wore my Filppula jersey today hoping it would say he's in for tonight! ![]()
I heard that Kirk Maltby would've played if Dr. Fil didn't make it, is Maltby going to play soon? I pray not.
So this is still a forum for discussing real hockey games then?
Finally the withdrawal can end. It was starting to feel like it never would.
Why did the commentators say that it was a cheap call on Ott he punched Holmstrom 3 times in the jaw...it's dirty he got what he deserved and ralf made him pay. Good start!
I still hate that they don't show penalty replays at the Joe.
This crowd is nuts. Not as loud as against SJ last year but they're all over Turco.
Dallas with 4 shots in the first. Even w/ two PP. Excellent.
Ozzie should've had the rebound on that goal. Oh well.
Stars fan just yelled "Three more!" I replied "Three more wins!"
Fans in this section are remarkably unconcerned about spilling their beer.
Pretty decent game. They did what they needed to do against a tired Stars side. You can't ask for much more. And that's five games in a row in the playoffs where Franzen's scored. Incredible.
So much for the Dallas PP and Turco's stellar play.
Yeah, I'm still surprised people thought the Avalanche were gonna take down the Wings. I know anything's possible, but Forsberg alone couldn't have done it! Blah, one thing that sucks about favorites.
I liked yesterday's game. I didn't really pay attention to Maltby so I will not bad-mouth his play today. Filppula was sweet, but I'm biased
Happy to see Rafalski get a goal too, it shows that there's more than three people who can score. And Franzen is still amazing.
edit;; What's-his-face can suck it
Seriously. Why did he even bring up the interviews being Swedish, that doesn't effect people's opinions on if they want to buy seats or not. Plus, i love their interviews. I HOPE SOMEONE DOES A SLAPSHOT IN HIS FACE!!!! ![]()
And David Garulnik(if I spelled his name right, which I'm pretty sure I didn't) is pretty amazing for taking so many photos of Filppula! ![]()
edit2;; sorry for my abundance of smiley faces, I just can't contain my emotions, though! ;D
I didn't get as many photos as I would have liked (aisle seats means people were walking past me a lot, center ice means it was a lot of players backs during warmups) but they're posted to the site now.
