Misconduct

Late Thoughts on Wings - Leafs

Some thoughts from the morning after...

Turns out that Dan Cleary will be out for six-to-eight weeks after taking a puck to the face on a shot by Mikael Samuelsson. The good news is that eight weeks puts him back right at the start of the playoffs.

Depending on who you believe, Jiri Hudler was a healthy scratch. The FSN guys said he wasn't feeling well, Malik called it a shoulder issue (after MacLeod said he was out and mentioned he'd been hurt against the Kings on Thursday), and Khan was neutral. Now MacLeod calls it a healthy scratch.

Actually, MacLeod says a lot of what I have said or would have said. I agree with him on the goaltending, you guys saw my ranting here.

I expected this game to be a loss and really am kind of glad to have just gotten a point out of it. Today's game against the Ducks is much more important.

A classic original six match up and long standing rivalry. I am looking forward to this one

Have to ask Clark about whether his team by team record against stats are accurate, but according to his page here, the Wings hold a slight edge at 333 wins 331 losses and 93 ties against the Leafs for all-time.

They're right if my scores are all right. FSN said that only two games separate the teams so whether the numbers are right or not, the margin is.

Ugh, what a bounce. Hasek got caught cheating a little, too.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/9/2008 at 3:25 PM

Hm. Lots of offense by the Leafs! <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" /> I hope this game doesn't go downhill like the last one, but I guess you can't always win as everyone is saying lately.

Who scored the goal? <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.png" />

Darcy Tucker. Is it just me or is the ACC really quiet. Sounds like we can hear the on-ice sounds better than usual.

I agree. They are taking shots on the powerplay for once <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />I hope Cleary's ok. It would suck to lose him for a bit.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 2/9/2008 at 3:33 PM

Yawn.

Wings are getting better but definitely not the most exciting game.

I hate afternoon games.

Lidstrom's, right?

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 2/9/2008 at 4:31 PM

Very nice. Yeah, it goes to Lidstrom. I was surprised that went in.

I agree. Neither team seems to be playing with a lot of OOMMPPFFFF ...

I am enjoying the between period commentary about the rivalry and various players of old.

Posted by skyguy52 on 2/9/2008 at 4:49 PM

Even if Mickey York's narration on that Sittler bit was awful.

This is the stuff the NHL needs to remember. Try so hard to create rivalries at the expense of such amazing ones that already existed.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/9/2008 at 4:52 PM

Ah, this is so lame. Dx This is taking forever. I thought it had been like 10 minutes and I look up to see it's only been 3 ._.

This is probably the slowest game I have watched.

At least the Filppula-Samuelsson-and whoever the third person is are doing some nice plays.

Gah! Everyone knows Draper can't finish!

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/9/2008 at 5:00 PM

Geez. Draper ALL ALONE in front of TOSKILA and gets robbed.

Gah! Everyone knows Draper can't finish!

Drapes has been known to miss the broad side of a barn ..... On that last one though .... how could he miss? lol <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />

By the speed / energy level of this game, I gotta wonder if the boys got together last night for a few cocktails in Toronto.

Posted by skyguy52 on 2/9/2008 at 5:04 PM

Toskala never seems out of position this afternoon.

Just robbed Homer.

XD Couldn't have put it in better words. x] Maybe it's so quiet there because everyone is sleeping.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 2/9/2008 at 5:09 PM

I feel like I could be asleep right now.

And then it's 2-1! Woohoo!

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/9/2008 at 5:11 PM

Lucky deflection on Lidstrom's shot to the net.

Ugly goal, but I'll take it ..lol <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />

That line has worked hard tonight, from the slowness of this game at least. I think they deserved it.

It should be an exciting finish, so maybe that'll keep everyone awake.

Agreed. Its impossible for me to believe the WINGS could lose this one, given the games pace, and how ineffective the Maple Leafs seem to be playing.

I had to quote this again because I was just thinking, if they're drunk and hungover now, how bad will it be against the Ducks? Let's hope they don't get pummeled.Darn. It's tied again. And now the crowd is showing some love.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 2/9/2008 at 5:17 PM

Gotta wonder if DOM fell asleep before that Toronto possession, rush and GOAL!

Jeepers. Bring out the SMELLING SALTS~~~~~~ pump some life into the WINGS.

I'm going to be P1SSED if this ends up in a shoot-out and we end up on the short end of the stick.

Posted by skyguy52 on 2/9/2008 at 5:21 PM

I'll be p*ssed if this goes to a shootout 'cause I need to leave for a company party in 20 minutes. No recap tonight.

Edit: Though I'd prefer a shootout win than any other kind of loss.

Posted by YzerFan19 on 2/9/2008 at 5:24 PM

I will be either ways because IT'S GONE ON LONG ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!

XD Smelling salts would do nicely. Maybe a large air horn. Get whapped with a stick? The world will never know.

Posted by Mathieu_Datsyuk132351 on 2/9/2008 at 5:27 PM

#80 Toronto Andropov is a GIANT! Anyone see how big that guy is!

Here we go to OT. Smelling Salts anyone? haha

Posted by skyguy52 on 2/9/2008 at 5:28 PM

Gawd... what was DOM doing? Looking for his pillow?

and it was ANDROPOV .... the GIANT

I sit down just in time to see the Leafs score. <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" />

How pleasant.

I'll go email them a question to answer on tv and ask them what smell they would prefer.

edit;; How far into the overtime was it?

Ugh. No comment. See you guys tomorrow.

I thought it was less than one minute XD I must've been downstairs longer than I thought.(The slowness of the game messed up my time schedule)
