I didn't post a news update or a message here in my blog after Detroit's 6-2 loss in Nashville a couple days ago. I believe that's the first time this season that, aside from the score, DetroitHockey.Net went without mention of the outcome of the game.
I wasn't trying to ignore it, though - as I mentioned in the forums - I did turn the game off in the second period. I just felt that I needed time to reflect before putting my thoughts together on such a horrible performance.
Two days later, I find myself thinking that the performance wasn't as horrible as it seemed.
Right before I turned the game off, Mickey Redmond said something along the lines of "If there was ever a game where the goalie gave up six goals and didn't have a bad night, it was tonight." I think - to a certain extent - that applies to the whole team.
Thinking back, there weren't really too many bad plays or stupid decisions made by the Red Wings, it was just that Nashville capitalized on every single chance they got.
I'd love to complain about the officiating (the name of this blog is "Misconduct" after all) but the refs don't score six goals on a team.
Mike Babcock called it a "team effort" (I belive those were his words). An off-night, others might say.
While it comes at a bad time, during a losing streak that needs snapping, it's not indicitive of Detroit's play as of late.
As long as they bounce back, the game is an outlier and can be forgotten.
Right now we are on a little bit of a down after that tremendous high that we had. Vokoun may not be in net tonight so that should help us out a little bit. Let's go regain control of the central division! ![]()
Vokoun's expected to miss several weeks. Should make things easier but you know the rest of the team will step up their game.
MacDonald gets the start for Detroit.
I just turned it off. I can handle the Wings playing like sh*t but not that, combined with Nashville's fans and refs that seem too blinded by the Preds' ugly-ass jerseys to see their penalties. Kariya scores when Nashville should be shorthanded. Game was probably already gone by then but now I'm done. Screw this.
Wings got shafted on that second goal by Z, something in the rule book needs to be amended to the fact if the opposing players shove the other team into the crease so it creates interference with the goaltender, the goal should be allowed. That's CRAP! And you are right those ugly-ass jerseys are blinding the refs to what is really going on! THIS GAME REALLY SUCKS ASS!

Not a Wings fan, so maybe I'm missing something. Why not give Jimmy Howard these starts instead of Joey MacDonald...Detroit has had enough trouble with starters named Joey.
Good question. MacDonald can't go down to GR without clearing waivers so it makes sense for him to be the regular #3 but if they need a goalie to get into a game, it seems like Howard would be the one to do it. The Wings have said they won't call anyone up while Osgood is injured, though.
Maybe it's financial, the Wings trying to save their cap space for when they need it most.
The way they played tonight (for the two periods I actually watched), I'm glad it wasn't Howard getting lit up, who knows what that would have done for his confidence.
Who is backing up Macdonald anyway? Is it Liv? Why not put him in last night to see how it turned out? Could not have been any worse, and I think everyone is waiting to see what he can do. Stormo who is your team?
Habs... That a respectable pick, history question for you:
What does the CH on their uniforms mean? And it is not Les Habitants

It was Hasek making his first appearance of the season as backup, they didn't want him to come in cold so they left MacDonald in.
Like I said before, not sure why the Wings don't have another goalie called up.
It originally stood for Canadian Hockey Club or Le Club de Hockey Canadien
If it was Hasek this time, who was backing up last time?

The old joke...playing on a French accent...is that CH along the redline stands for Centre Hice
